Unmodified, 1.0 litre and maximum bhp of 90 for the first five years.

......tracker compulsory for under 25’s insurance.

Decent ban for anyone breaking these regs of 12 months minimum.

How would that translate for an electric car?

What are people's thoughts about whether electric cars will ever attract gatherings like the one in Stevenage and the awful consequences?

Will that make any contribution to the change in the social acceptability of ICE cars compared to electric?
Electronically restricted

Also, sort out the MOT rules to ban aftermarket exhausts and st like that

Trouble is, how many policemen/women would it take to school these scrotes all night long.

That's taxpayer money used on lowlife idiots with zero life, hence hanging out in a carpark. It's already been mentioned that they wait for the police to go, before the speeding and reckless driving kicks off again so what can police actually do except babysit fktards all night long whilst real crime is going on elsewhere.

I'm not the police but am 100% sure they have more important things to attend to.

As if our taxes aren't stretched enough, we have to put up with this st.
But isn't there a good pay-off with this as well? Get coppers there who have an interest in cars to engage with the community and have people see the police as people rather than pricks (not saying that the police are it's merely the perception a lot of youngsters seem to have). Then there's a visible, friendly police presence which should stop a lot of dheads acting up, builds good relationships with a group who mistrust authority....
I think you need a reality check on just how many police are available on a given night.

We don't have the capacity for stuff like this. dheads will be dheads no matter how nice a copper is to them.

The police attend when people are committing crimes, when they are not then they are attending other crimes. When they have run out of crimes to attend they can do fluffy stuff like this.

How many police man-hours will be consumed by this event (let alone NHS costs) ?

How many police man-hours would it have taken to have an occasional (covert ?) presence randomly over the last few months issuing tickets to any observed idiots ?

Maths provides the equivalent.

Double edge sword. At a bike event in the midlands last weekend, there were 6 to 8 police officers in attendance each day. They joined ride outs, did the off road courses, seemed to have a great time and I’m sure there was a good intent in their presence.

But on the night when 6 bikes were taken of course there wasn’t any police presence. Budget restrictions you see. Without wanting to criticise them, it was notable that they had budget to burn about 24 shifts of resource doing “pr” work but none for policing the site.

My guess is that there will be even more awful consequences when everything is electric, because you won't be able to actually hear the cars coming. It will be absolute chaos I reckon.

Apologies. I must have missed this earlier but thanks.

Sounds like a workable solution but wonder why it's not applicable across the UK? Is it possibly because meeting with a few mates in a car park is difficult to police in the first place i.e. at what point does a meet-up for social purposes turn into an illegal boy/girl racer meet?
I would be concerned about the law of unintended consequences with a national approach. Think dangerous dogs act but for cars.

It could make the breakfast meets and similar unlawful or traction engine rallies.

There's not a problem with properly organised events off the public highway, where the police are notified well in advance and agreements in place. Also 5 mates in MX5s turning up at pub, and leaving quietly a few hours later simply doesn't register.

To me it seems to be working very well, and I believe that's why it got an extension.

Quite possibly, but part of the spectacle - the attraction for the supporters and the nuisance for the others - is the noise. Hence the time and money devoted to making them louder. Would the crowds gather in the same numbers to watch a Stonic or a Zoe woosh silently past?

People do watch Formula E but it doesn't appear to have grabbed popular attention.

We'll see the return of stupendous car audio and underbody lights.

and yet there're always enough police to go skateboarding with XR idiots or other community policing initiatives. I realise that you can't police every car show/meet but baby steps to start with

It will be a complete lose lose then!! hehe

The noise a cars engine/exhaust makes has always had massive appeal to me. I absolutely love V8's and that love hasn't diminished since I was about 7 years old! cloud9

Funnily enough Quentin Wilson was also blaming Top Gear when he was talking about this on BBC Radio 2.

Interesting reference to an accident on the A34.

Seems the jokey personal digs about preferences of TG Presenters is at least two decades old and could date from a period when Chris Harris was reading Performance Car at school.

Always amazes me how some of the folk at these meets, who obviously spend a lot of time and money on their cars, then proceed to really abuse them, can sort of understand it with the ratty old BMW compacts and stuff but you see some really tidy stuff getting mercilessly ragged, I often wonder whether they get up the following morning like when you have had a proper session wondering what they did and remember killing £300 worth of tyres.

Clearly.

Strictly speaking, they’re all influencers but people need to be mature enough to realise there is a time and place.

Mind you, if there’s a lunch mob being formed can we stick Shmee top of the hit list?!

It seems matey boy driving the GT86 works for the local Toyota dealers in St Albans and i suspect he has some explaining to do to his dealer principal for this one.
