This is my new summer car. Can’t wait to get mine on the road. Been waiting since January for the PPF & ceramic to be applied before driving.

Nope. Not til April but must ring the guys and book her in for a service first week in April.
First time I've ever SORN'ed a car so intrigued to see how easy/ difficult it will be to retax.

Ive used my trio throughout winter, mainly as it seems 2 are always broken, so they’ve all had to step up at some point!

It was refreshing to use the 2002 to pop to the supermarket and go the long way home on a sunny Sunday this weekend, roll on the long days for endless drives to nowhere…

Un-SORNed my 370z on Friday as the VED rates go up next month. Looking forward to a few sunny or at least dry days now.

The Cayman wasn't off the road but has hardly been used since last Autumn because of the foul weather. Did some work on the brakes over the weekend so now ready to head out into the blue yonder.

Looks like it might be sunny tomorrow evening!
Maybe a dumb question but does this happen ever year?
I seem to remember someone on her advising me to tax my car a bit sooner than I had planned to save a fair bit of ££.....might be the same this year?
I think I ended up taxing end of March to avoid a price hike in April, even though I basically paid for a full month right at the end of the month.....

If you re-tax a car before the start of April the existing rates apply - every little helps when you're in the rip-off post '06 Band M category like my XJR. Had the car two years and from next month the VED will have gone up by over £100 in that time rolleyes

Ok good to know.....assume I need to do a little maths and work out if it's more cost effective to tax in a month I'm unlikely to drive it (march) vs paying the higher rate in April. Having said that, more likely I'd want to drive it in Sept than in March.....so my hands might be tied.

Have taken this leggy old girl out a few times since end of Feb can get a bit grubby if the roads are wet but nothing a decent wash doesn't take care of.

Sorry, just back on this for a second.....if I only use the car in the Summer, but to make the most cost effective decision, would I be best to tax it today for 12 months, use it a bit in March if the weather is good, then SORN it most likely in Sept and take the refund?
Or am I still wisest to tax for 6 months come April as I would usually?

Twelve months is best ... you get a refund of the full monthly amount, whereas if you do it for six months it costs more. (Although if you put the saving in a high interest account for six months, it may still balance out.)

FYI
If you pay using Amex Credit Card, you get the 1% cash back on the twelve month cost, and when you sorn the car you get a cheque back from DVLA. Win Win.
Cost of motoring matters on PH ha ha !

Ok cool, def worth me taxing it today for 12 months I reckon then, take the pre April saving and then possibly use it this month as a bonus, then SORN end of Sept for a 5 month refund.....

(Don't have an AMEX sadly)

Its getting close - I reckon the first or second week in April for me.
There were two heavy spreads of grit/salt last week which scared me off.

I reckon April 15 when I reactivate road insurance. Cars were fully serviced before winter so hopefully there will be no surprises!

Took the Z4 out for a quick spin last night, looking forward to being able to drive it without it getting covered in crap every time it goes out.

This ^ Particularly pertinent last year and this year as the rise is index linked to inflation!

Finally a few dry days, and much as I like to think "ffs man, it's a new Toyota!" it hasn't seen much use through all this rain

On a more serious note, the proper weekender has been sitting grimy since New Year, so with 12° and no rain on Saturday it probably ought to get a clean...

My fun car is Band M and the tax ran out at the end of January, so I SORN'd it for February when I was unlikely to use it anyway!

Taxed it for March because I have a trip planned for a few weeks time, but the weather was so good on Sunday I took it for a drive just for the sake of it.
