RE: Toyota GR86 sells out in 40 minutes

Such a horrendous buying experience, all down to zero communication from Toyota which could be so easily resolved.
True. Surely they know which cars have been at Derby since May/June? In which case why hasn't there been a communication to all those affected with, "here's the reason why, the new ETA is...." rather than some nobody knowing exactly why there is a delay, some people getting a phone call saying ETA October, some people hearing nothing at all since late April. It's very basic stuff yet still Toyota GB manage to completely fail. I see they've bumped up the service costs now too to further p-off those who should've had their cars in July. DelicaL400 said:

They were the same with the GR Yaris and unfortunately they keep the dealers out of the loop yet no doubt they get the brunt of complaints. Servicing went up 2 years ago and Toyota communicated that to all to encourage getting a service plan, this time round it was someone leaking a memo to dealers that got news out.

Anyone heard anything else from Toyota? Any cars being delivered in the UK/EU? Any demonstrators at dealers yet?
Looks like some of the mags are getting demos to drive now, albeit German…..AutoBild seemed pretty pleased with it
Lighter than expected at 1277kg and certainly seems to have all the quoted power in the engine this time
0-100 in 14.6 seconds and the 60 benchmark in 6.3 so has E30 M3 Evolution Sport/Cosworth performance out the box now

3 seconds faster lap time than the GT86 but notably slower lap time than a Golf GTI, GR Yaris, A110, TTS and 718 Cayman.
I'm mildly surprised it didn't post a faster time but it makes no difference - that's not why I'm buying the car.
Yes, just thought it would be interesting to people who are hanging in with their order. I'm mildly surprised it didn't post a faster time but it makes no difference - that's not why I'm buying the car.
Also interesting that the European mags are starting to get demos to have a play in
Certainly seems like it will be worth the wait reading the review above
You’d expect it to be quite a lot slower than a cayman T, a110 and to a lesser extent the Yaris.
Slightly odd the difference to the GTI, which if it is a standard one, probably has a worse power/weight ratio.
Having said that i notice many of the cars are used, 2019/2020, so who knows if they are standard. Tyres will make a difference too of course.
Anyway, the GR86 is not bought by anyone for its ‘on paper’ statistics and 0-100mph in under 15secs is plenty quick enough for a fun road car.

Just as a point of interest, they were new standard cars at the time rather than used, just like the GR86 was new in this test. They are merely telling you what year version or test of the Cooper S/Golf GTi/Yaris/Cayman etc they were using to compare to. The tyres will invariably be what they delivered on from the factorySlightly odd the difference to the GTI, which if it is a standard one, probably has a worse power/weight ratio.

E.T.A. The Golf GTI tested was on Bridgestone Porenza S005 235/35 ZR19s on 8x 19” alloys….. so more power atw and more rubber

Still, tyres, weather, driver, track condition etc may impact comparisons over several years, but it does give an indication of course.

Wow, 56% weight on the front axle. That's pretty nose heavy, I am surprised.
I was quite impressed it was only 40kg more than the old model The last one was 55/45 f:r so roughly the same - I remember reading that they chose to make it nose heavier than they could have for handling/fun reasons

Other companies say 50/50 is the optimum.
This and the GR Yaris are the top contenders for my next car. Not sure if it's true but I've heard the GR86 won't be sold in Ireland, it will mean sourcing from NI but it won't be for at least a 18 months so I'll have plenty of time to think about it. Has anyone owned/driven the GT86 and GR Yaris? The GT86 is the most fun I've had in a car without doing stupid speeds, but I think the Yaris will cure my itch for an Evo or WRX STI. Neither of which would be a great choice for an everyday car, but the Yaris would be great for that.

Surely the GR Yaris and GR86 were each developed for very different customers.GR Yaris - grippy speedier machine
GR86 - slidey slower machine
What type of driving do you like? Gripping or sliding?

Very different characteristics but both appeal to me. The GT86 is the best car I've owned but the Yaris is calling to me. I missed the boat for the WRX or Evo, that's part of the appeal to the Yaris, I doubt we'll see anything else like it for a long time.GR Yaris - grippy speedier machine

Every single car noted above is nowhere near a competitor to the GR86? Kibda odd comparison:I'm mildly surprised it didn't post a faster time but it makes no difference - that's not why I'm buying the car.
Cayman, Alpine, TTS - all vastly more expensive, double++ for the A110 and Cayman
GTi - FWD
GR Yaris - fine car, but 4WD and a completely different concept
If you were considering buying a GR86 for lap times - why?
