Someone I worked with who considered herself to be a petrolhead had a Saab convertible and said that due to it being front wheel drive she couldn't do handbrake turns.
what a silly billy smash
Nope not that silly, what she could have meant is she had a front wheel HANDBRAKE thus handbrake turns are not possible.
Except in reverse ... wink

Do people still refer to all VW's as Golfs? Used to happen a lot when I was younger and they all got corrected...

I was not popular on the playground.
I remember when Golfs were called wabbits.

People who call Land Rovers (or any 4x4 for that matter) 'Jeeps'

My sister thought her old 1.4 Corsa 'Breeze Hi-Torq' was a fast car

I have no problems with this, but maybe it's because my parents' always said that.

To be fair, that's relative. My Starlet 1.3 GLi felt pretty rapid after I sold my 1.0 Micra. However, my 318i felt like I was driving through treacle after my Elise.

As was clear from the rest of the original post, however as we all know a Saab 93 doesn't have a handbrake on the front wheels. smash

I was passengered around in a 1.4 Corsa B the other day and was surprised at how torquey it is for a 1.4.

Dizzy bint I used to work with traded her 1.2 petrol Corsa for a 1.5 non-turbo diesel one because "it's got a bigger engine so it will be faster"

She also bought some alloy wheels off her cousin for it, then mentioned it felt funny to drive - after a quick look at it I then spent 20 minutes trying to explain the concept of wheel offset to her

That happens all the time still exept with Chevrolet Corvettes.

"Have you seen that new Corvette Spark" mad

i dont have much of a social life and often get referred to as "that car pr1ck",
my problem is that i assume everyone has to know everything about cars that i do, so if they dont, i sub-consiously think they are stupid, i forget no one else is a petrolhead.

Audi TT's and 911/cayman are manufactured by the same people and they all share the same platform.

i heard the above from more than one person.

I stopped talking to them.

Depends what speed she was driving at surely and to some people a 1.4 would be a fast car

My comment was more a demonstration that Saab have been known to fit handbrakes to the front wheels which would definitely confuse a lot of people. As far as I know this set up is only used by Saab on 99/900s and some Citreons.

My 1.4 205 XS was pretty rapid (for a 1.4 with 85bhp).

Depends what you are comparing it to.
1.4 205 verses a bycicle it will fee rapid
1.4 205 verses an Aventador probably not so.
