Sounds terrific to me. Fast car =/= sports car.

Soft and fast is ideal for my wants.
I think in the real world, a soft-ish suspension makes for much faster progress than a super stiff set up. My E430 with its comfort suspension and big motor is pretty devastatingly fast on roads like the A697 from Morpeth to Coldstream.
This is mainly why I am drawn to the SV8 rather than the XJR. And the word 'Super'.
My Sovereign only has 240bhp, but it's not a slow car by any means and is still quite nimble on the comfort suspension, even with 18" wheels and 50 profile tyres. It's no go-kart, that's for sure, but I did a 380 mile round trip to visit a client last week, and it just chewed up the miles. Wonderful!

Neither the sports nor the comfort suspension are remotely stiffly sprung. Both are soft and body roll-y, just a bit less so with the sports set up.
fair point but even the old 2.8 straight 6 XJ i had for a bit was a bit vertical under acceleration. Nice for looking at the sky.

I think if you tried an X350 one you’d be pleasantly surprised. They’re not great in the corners but very composed under acceleration - I took mine up to 155MPH for extended periods most weeks and it was very sure footed, even on the sweeping curves you find on a lot of Italian motorways. Just don’t expect it to give an Elise a run for its money down a country road.

6 years ago I paid the same for mine, although at the time it had less than 80,000 miles on the clock.

I still have it, but it doesn't look as tidy as this:

(Although the Walnut trim looks nicer, and the normal armrest without a phone slot makes it feel a little more modern.)
That is a gorgeous-looking car and if it is half as good as it looks, well worth the money. What could you buy at ten times the price that would be half as good?

You appear to have posted a 520 diesel. This thread is now officially broken. Mods please start the next volume...

Is that plastic grey septum thing correct between the grilles?

That looks like either an oversight, or broken? Surely that should be body-colour?

I think it’s where the radar equipment, etc go, the current 7 Series (G11) also has the same black (plastic?) section between the kidneys.

Personally it’s a better approach than on the new Mercs.

The same applies in Porsche-land and BMW-land, in my view. Especially when coupled with nothing bigger than a 16" wheel.
Louiebaby. What is that thing you have posted? Please made it go away.

Plastic grey septum.
Concise and descriptive.
I can see a bright future in car-based journalism.

You did mean the whole car, right?

Sounds perfect. Drop me a mail once you've titivated and sorted it and I'll buy it from you for a thousand pounds more less than you paid!

I don't think you have - as I understand it, it was free.

Even our committed titivator is unlikely to pay me to take a car off his hands! One does live in hope though.

Runs well. But no ABS, no ESP, no hand brake, no electrical consumers (like heated seats) and both battery warnings are on. I don't know whether it was jump started this morning. It may need new batteries but that is OK because they are under warranty from MB, where it is headed next.
Low batteries will account for most of those, in particular the heated seats and the like are disabled when the battery is low. I bet a charge / new battery will fix most / all of those problems. Mine used to eat batteries as it wasn't used a lot, MB made you take the car in for a diagnostic before replacing it under warranty foc....

I've no idea what colour are Cypriot taxis but I like it. Not silver and not Obsidian black but somewhere in between. Whoever ordered it new was happy to order what he wanted
Off topic - (can anything in this thread be off-topic?) From extensive knowldege (we have a place there), they tend to be white/cream/black/some weird pale mustard yellow not quite the German style (or like the DE style but sun-bleached wink ).

Like most of Cyprus, the taxi drivers have an interesting attitude to rules & regulations - red lights tend to be optional/give way at night, and speed limits in towns are disregarded completely, yet rarely hit outside of town. There’s also the retiree contingent who like to drink & drive (still), knowing that so long as they can get to the side of the road & turn the lights off, they’re very unlikely to be spotted (and you can see a Cypriot police car from afar at night, as they always have the lights on - if they want you to stop, they turn on the siren).

It does look like a very nice car though!
One of my most memorable car related experiences was almost 20 years ago, in an E-class Merc taxi with my friends, travelling from Kos town back to the other side. Never have I seen or heard more speakers in a car, never mind a taxi. It was fitting end to a crazy night out - the driver was a bit nuts, and the sound was phenomenal - it was about the time Maria Maria by Santana was out, as I remember feeling my guts moving in time with the bass!

It just made me want an E-class even more, following me falling in love with an all black, Darth Vader spec AMG E-class at the British Motorshow, the year the A-class was launched. (1997 or 98 Birmingham show I think).

I have still yet to to scratch that itch - the only car I fell in love with at a motorshow that I have owned was my £401 Alfa 155. hehe
