Looks genuine by the MoT history. Yes, the advisories last June are:
Nearside Front slight corrosion at front lower wing/sill end
Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive upper inner wheel arch area adjacent to rear strut support (5.3.6 (a) (i))

I had a 1.6 t spark for a few years. The handling was fantastic - such an eager car to be thrown into bends. Interior was good too.The engine...it needed another 100bhp, and I only got high 20s/ low 30s mgp.
One thing I do rate: the online forum support. It really makes a difference imo.

Such a good looking car and which I never, ever see on the road these days. Roaduser said:

Looks ideal for carrying my mountain bike to the trails, or even to have some fun on some of them green lanes.

Looks a cracker too. Toyota sponsored the national series for a few years, remember MTB Britain on TV!

Cambelt change every 3 years or 36k miles probably kills these off. Cost of £300 plus water pump means an owner may not invest the money at this price point. Loved mine. It was a 2.0 and drove so much better than the 2.2 159 that followed.snotrag said:

Such a good looking car and which I never, ever see on the road these days. Have driven a couple of those breadvan Polos a long time ago. Most memorable thing is the brakes; no servo I think so they need ‘adjusting’ to. Even more so now I’d have thought given the massively over-servoed stoppers of most modern stuff.
Does look great though and would be fun to revisit. Let’s hope it doesn’t end up all scened with stupid stance, rusty panels and all the usual sh!te.

Does look nice. G40 wheels. I had a few polos from this era. MK2 then a couple of MK2 facelifts like this one (which I could swear we all used to call the MK3's at the time but history seems to have been changed in the interim years. Sadly, none of them drive as well as you'd hope! The GT like the one above is the warm version but it's got a very unenthusiastic engine, understeer city and vague porridge spoon gearshift. The interior is also a sea of plastic and blanking switches. I think the earlier round headlight cars are much more appealing though being all carb engines they might be a little fiddlier to keep in fine fettle (though I don't recall any major issues with mine). I like this - looks pretty smart I think.

My father had one. Main agent supplied and maintained. It was gutless and completely uninspiring to drive and it developed an irritating gearbox fault at low mileage which VW prevaricated over for ages. Unless you have a particular thing about gutless, uninspiring cars then I can't think why anyone would want it. The performance derivatives I can understand, but this, no. Unreal said:

Love them. Polos always feel like a car from the class above in my experience. I'd have that in a heartbeat!!
My folks had one from new - always felt like you paid more for the badge than for the car - poverty spec, no more reliable than anything else and gouged on parts and labour for every service. Engine was bullet proof, aside from the carb air leaks, though.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
