Those flags are dangerous. I've been hit by two already.
That's 'cos you're brown. The racialists were throwing them at your head.

I'd suggest that Football is:

- The most popular played sport by men in the UK
- The most popular watched sport by men in the UK
- The most popular sport in the world
I thought fishing was the most popular 'sport' (played) in the UK? Of course only a sport in the same sense as McDonald's being the most popular 'restaurant'.
Only 1.5 million fishing licences sold for the UK in 2009.

And it is not really a spectator sport.

Don't see a whole load of them any more.

Used to be a huge thing down at my folks. Lucky to see a single person camped out on the beach freezing their tits off hoping to catch something full of oil, used johnnies and radioactive waste.

Oh for the good old days.

What I found odd was driving while the England match was on yesterday and seeing cars flying Eng-er-lund flags then.

Surely if you're enough of a footie fan to fly the flag you'd be watching the game!

They do look a little tacky but I can't understand people who criticise others for flying the national flag.
Because it's nothing to do with 'patriotism', it's about fking football, otherwise they'd all put them on their cars on St George's Day.

Not seen a single bloody flag this morning on any car in the city centre! Weird- took them off after poor performance last evening or the usual suspects still in their beds nursing alkohol-induced hangovers. I reckon the latter, it being an early morning (around 11am) at the time.

No doubt will see loads later on, just like I did yesterday.

As I said, what other proof are you after?

Other than UKTV Sports Viewing / Public Attendance figures.
Are you seriously contending that the majority of the UK public watch football on TV and/or attend games? I think you may be overestimating the popularity by a rather large margin there, old chap. Yes, a lot of people do it and it is undeniably popular, but I'd wager that it is somewhat less than 50% of the population.
IF England make the final and more than 50% of the population watch, would you take that back?

Football is the most popular sport in the country.

More people play it (or have played it), watch it and support it than any other sport or game. I believe angling runs it a close second. Not F1, not Rugby, nor Cricket - as much as I enjoy all of them.

The PH response to this make me laugh. Full of suck ups to the few and condescending B/S. The tired line of 'Oh how terribly chav to watch football.' Is just that - tired. Have any of you coming up with this crock ever been to a game? Ever noticed how, actually, it isn't that 'chavvy' at all? As guess what? It is too bloody expensive for 'chavs' to go to.

I always end up with a mental image of the school 'tard sticking his bottom lip out spouting vitriolic bks when accused of being a complete spacker during a kick around. (You know who you are!)

Those who say they hate it would gain far more kudos if they came out with 'Not going to watch the football, I was crap at it and have no interest as a result'.

BTW - the OH's car - completed without her knowledge and driving daily around Germany.

No flags, but it certainly gets a reaction - so far 100% positive. Maybe that has more to do with where we live they don't sell the sodding Daily Wail.

Just so my stand is understood. Am patriotic, love football, love sport in general and couldn't give a flying fk if that upsets people. wink
That car just looks crap, more of an ambulance than a patriots car. As for the 100 per cent positive reactions you turnip - people will be polite because they realise you are a simple twit. God only knows what the burghers think... probably laughing in their pils or alt, as I would be if it weren't so sad. What a plonker - get a life mate.
Wow, that's a huge overreaction if I ever saw one.

And yet I've seen them attached to MT vehicles in Afghanistan and Iraq, (removed before venturing out of the wire obviously), before the world cup. But to some people posting on here the drivers were obviously chavs, from council estates and too thick to think for themselves.
I've got no problem with the people who think they look 'tacky' - fine, don't get one then - but the idiots that are implying that flying an England flag means they are BNP supporters or a lower form of pondlife are just that; idiots. There are more flying now because England are in the world cup - go figure! rolleyes

91.34% of people here who are 'patriotic', know nothing historically of the country they live in.

Since when does a vast historical knowledge of your country denote how patriotic you are rolleyes

It is pretty much the love and devotion to your country, not some tally of historical facts.

Your post reads as though it is classing those who consider them selves as patriotic as not because they don't know a lot of historical facts or who St. George was wink

It's not just an Engalnd thing.

I've been in Hamburg over the weekend and there were a similar number of cars sporting German flags and also wing mirror covers of the German flag!

All these "patriotic" people have taken them off as it was a football thing and we are out of the game.
