Seriously Overpriced Cars
Discussion

I used to see a couple regularly - one at a local hill climb/sprint but they were never really rapid as standard for the looks like an RS500
Well built though which made them heavy - a friend still has an ordinary 2.5-16 ( like Mike Duff’s car on here ) and they are really well tied down in the corners so I can imagine the EVO 2 would be excellent with another 100bhp
Evo1 with powerpack here for £110k: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C786209
A standard 2.5 would be a lovely thing to have for high days and holidays, and many are still not unreasonably priced in comparison

Christ on a bike, there’s a reason “it’s the only one in the world” absolutely hideous.

Colour combination is a good one, beats the usual black interior. . 62k miles and appalling interior....

Gotta be typo shirley? Otherwise the guy thinks the wrap has added £65k to the value of a pov spec, manual, bottom of the range W123?

I think he was a bit underwhelmed by the road performance
Does sound pretty good though

Saw that sm, was surprised it got such a pasting. I can’t recall the period reviews of these, and I don’t ever remember the Evo1 being tested, but do you know if the likes of Laban or Kacher felt the same as Cironi?https://youtu.be/bSs1iYxJtPo

Yes, can’t recall anything quite as severe from KacherHe only tried it against a standard M3 and seemed to like it but the Fast Lane and Autocar reviews weren’t as critical either iirc
Kacher said it was quicker than the BM through the bends but he wouldn’t want to own one because of the body kit
I think a 2.5-16 with the power pack ( or the EVO 1 you linked ) would be a great compromise
They were never quick compared to the BMW or Sierra as standard but very well made. The guy we used to see in one would often remark how fast the Sierras were but then the M3 and Cosworth were considerably lighter

Thanks sm! Interesting to note Kacher maintained there was no body rollHe only tried it against a standard M3 and seemed to like it but the Fast Lane and Autocar reviews weren’t as critical either iirc

Also, that’s the first time I’ve seen mention that the rear air deflector is actually functional. I’d long been led to believe it was in place to circumvent a DTM rule that the rear wing couldn’t be visible from the drivers seat, so instead of limiting the wing in height, Merc instead blocked out the top half of the rear window. Thinking about it, the Sierras would have been affected by this rule too, so must be a myth
Back from a liquid lunch so may have started drinking too early, but conversations led to me looking up anniversary Golfs, which tend to be parts bin specials of all the good bits- S3 engine in a golf, etc.
This has obviously had money spent on it and is a good car objectively, no doubt. But £20K for a MK4 Gti with an engine transplant?
Golf MK IV
Surely you could buy the nicest of nice MKIV's and drop irrecoverable amounts of money on it and still save moeny compared to buying this?

Although the picture in the top middle of both the article pages above.....and below.....seem to disagree slightly with Mr Kacher!
Maybe it didn’t feel as bad compared to other stuff 30 years back
