Sometimes when adults get very very lonely they make things up in their minds to make them happier. It's a bit like your invisible friend that mummy and daddy can't see but you can.

Sometimes adults get very very sad and they tell little lies to themselves and their friends (invisible and real ones) to make themselves feel happier and less sad. They write things that aren't true and share it with lots of people.

It's like if you went around telling everyone that you are 6, when you know and I know you are really only 5 1/2. You will get found out when you invite people to your birthday party and people would say "but you told us you were already 6" and they wouldn't come to your party because they knew your were lying to them. Little lies are just as bad as big lies.
