The cigarette lighter socket are still live, but my charger doesn't have a lighter plug, just a normal 3 pin plug and crocodile clips. The battery is in the boot buy in an awkward place, the charging terminals are under the bonnet. My only concern with leaving it plugged in all the time is that the charger would be outside.... Where it will get cold and wet...

Ideas? Cheers.

Hi Ross, hope you are being spoiled by those nurses today! smile

Regarding the charger, are you speaking about a trickle charger or a normal battery charger? Brunhilda was always on a trickle charger/conditioner which was in the garage and the charger lead was outside. Accumate/Optimate type ones are about £50 and do the job nicely.

Merry Christmas Threadists! R129 I hope this present is beige in nature. Ross enjoy your time at home, I bet you can't wait. I'm on turkey duty but will probably be bored later so will trawl the web for more bargain barges!

Happy Christmas all, especially Ross - enjoy your time at home today.

My 124 is now having to live outside while a new garage goes through planning etc., but is permanently on a CTEK trickle charger, connected to the battery via leads attached to the battery terminals. The charger is quite happy perched to the side of the engine, with an extension lead trailed up from the under tray - it takes 2 minutes to disconnect the charger and retrieve the extension lead. It doesn't get wet, and is unworried by the cold.

Off to do the Brussel sprouts....

How about a solar charger for the dashboard ? Save the hassle of having a mains charger plugged in, leave the charger on the dashboard and connect through the lighter socket.

P.S. Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. beer

Merry Christmas bargistas, hope it is a good one for all.

Lodge the charger under the bonnet (if that's where the battery is?), and route an extension lead up from under the car. Neither will get wet.

Chargers that run a cycle of charging and partial discharging are (I'm told) preferential to those that keep the battery at 100%.

Accumate fan here; been using them for over 15 years now with no problems whatsoever.

Get it warmed through once or twice a month, ventilate like others have said but an actual 20 miles plus run will do everything the world of good and avoid a stack of issues.

Lovely old thing.
I think it was featured a few weeks ago.

Smallest engine option (typical and understandable in Ireland) and the spare wheel is different to the road wheels? Looks like it is from a W126?

Otherwise looks nice and I like the colours.

Back at home now and saw the E65 again! Matt has my charger so when I'm discharged I'll see what I can come up with. The charger is quite a big one I'm not sure if it'll fit under the bonnet, but I'll have to see! I'd rather not spend more money on a charger if I can avoid it!

Not having a garage is a pain! I'll have to see what I can work out because obviously I don't want the extension lead or charger getting wet! And I don't want to remove the battery either.

Solar charger in the cigarette socket with appropriate wiring if required?

Good you're back home. Have a Happy Christmas and all the best for the new year.

+1 glad to hear from you Ross. Hope you a speedy recovery. Hopefully catch you at an SS soon.

The CLK55 has gone, E36 M3 arrived!
What's it like ? Pics? And thumbup
Finally picked one up.

Boston Green '98 Evo Cabrio. 59,000m, years MOT, fresh out of an Insp II and New Vanos unit. (£1300 bill from Dr Vanos! eek )

Got a random email from a guy that really wanted the CLK and wanted to do a deal with his M3.

Bad point??

It was Cat C in 2000. Otherwise its a 8-10k car at a dealer. I've looked around it, underneath it, its been through BMW numerous times, previous owner had it through ML pre-purchase insp + there's not a spot of rust on it. So im satisfied I wont die in it. I did OK price wise IMO so I dont think i'll loose money if I can keep the mileage down + im going to try and track down some more history for the car.

ETA: its fricking awesome btw. love it.
Is it Boston or fern green? I had a 98 m3 cab in fern but with tan leather. Lovely car. Got stolen and written off about 6 years back.
Wow, get that man a drink. The touch up kit supplied with the car was Boston hence me thinking it was Boston. Did a check on the VIN and its Fern!

One of the very best looking Mercs....although I'd require 8 cylinders, I think.

I'd say that exhibit is a fine example, though.

Hi Ross,

Hope you had a nice time at home, re the e65 remember there is a battery 'cutoff' switch in the boot. That combined with a solar trickle charger should solve any battery issues. The e65 battery isn't cheap, think I paid around £150 for the battery from memory then it needs to be 'programmed' to the the car. So can be quite expensive.

Agreed, that looks great for money! Although ideally it would need to be a 500.

That's a good call about the battery cut off actually! I'm guessing that's going to be far less problematic than disconnecting the battery?

In Amazon the AA sell a solar charger which connects to either the battery (or the terminals under the bonnet) or the obc port.... Would the obc bit still work? Obviously the cigarette lighter socket wouldn't work!
