If you are in the vehicle electrics trade then its easy to install numerous devices that allow the scum to take your car but after a few minutes as soon as its stationery the engine will die. They wont ever get it started again.

Ill be long gone out of the house if they decide to come back.

To be half-way serious, I live in a country where home invasions are a very rare occurrence (maybe it's the risk of an arrow in the bum 
), although we have had a few car-jackings recently.
I usually leave my car keys on the coffee table, and would definitely challenge any burglar, but as a slightly-built over 50 year old, I have no illusions as to my ability to fight even one determined assailant, let alone two or more.
Especially as I don't have a staircase.
In order to steal the car I care about, the burglar would need to bring a set of valves and a head gasket, and I doubt they could get the engine reassembled before the police arrive.
A threat to my wife would be a different matter.
