What surprises me is how so many people are getting away with these totally illegal plates and not getting pulled over for them.

I got pulled over because I didn't have a postcode on my plates! The plates were legal and everything, but just no postcode at the bottom. WTF is with that.

Saw a BMW 5 series with fake M5 badges and four exhausts . The plate was D15 SYS but messed with to look like DIS SYS. Wondered if the guy was a computer programmer then it dawned on me that in chav speak it was meant to say "diss this".

Checking its actually a 525D, not an M5.

Without the postcode your plates weren't "legal and everything" as you found out.

I saw a plate that read 'M BUG M' on a VW Beetle, I can only assumed it was M13 UGM, but the 1 and 3 were pushed right together, leaving no gap.

They are legal. I bought UK Legal plates, the maker just didn't put their postcode on.

Funbus is right though. You're maker is required by law to put his postcode on the bottom of the plates. If he doesn't do this they're not legal plates.

Well sue me. If people are getting away with the stuff seen on here then I think a missing postcode is hardly the end of the world. I like the clean look if I think about it.

The law is the law and in the end all the culprits of dodgy plates will be brought to task. Whether you like the clean look or not your plates without the postcode of the manufacturer are illegal.

Didn't realise there were some exceptions to the rule. I don't pretend to be the font of all knowledge!

Ok excuse my ignorance here but to what purpose does having a post code serve on your number plate especially as it is not yours?

There are some 'boob' plates in circulation though from previous years.

Couldn't find 'M 13UG M' but 'M 8UG M' is on a green Beetle?

Really? What about vehicles manufactured before 1st September 2001?
Is there a ruling for that, then? (I mean the 1/9/01 part?)

(Edited to specify question)

Saw a great one on an AA low loader today- "AA 2"... Must be worth a few bob. I seriously considered unscrewing the plates and selling them, reckon I could make £££££!

It is frankly worrying how many tasteless and illegal plates are actually on decent cars these days given that they were once the preserve of council estate mongs.
"Council estate"? No such thing mate.
