... have been vindicated. They managed to save a mighty 40kg whilst making a car that I suspect almost no-one in the UK would actually want to buy. hehe

Mind you, I'd happily have one in that spec. smile

So it weighs 1190kg when sold in this condition:

and it's missing the limited slip differential. Or 1230kg fully loaded.

Yep. There's not a single Toyota dealer that wll want one in their showrooms, anyawy I doubt Toyota GB would even consider importing them if they were given the option.

No at all, i mentioned a reduction in comfort levels, no air con, as this model has, less comfy seats as this one has and generally less of everything.

I think its great, not a day after a heated discussion where Pistonheads gives us the answer and still your questioning my thoughts, lol smile

It's probably the missing £8k that's really exciting, tbh.

I'd guess more like missing 3-4k once you've faffed about importing one.

It's 40kg less, you'd never notice it bar maybe a slightly better steering feel from the smaller wheels & tyres. Mind it's an ideal base car for a project, motorsport etc nothing else imo.

Still some ways off £25k, no?

I suspect Toyota would sell more of these than anyone would guess, should they bother to bring them in to the UK officially and keep the price differential similar to what it is in Japan.

Of course we question your thoughts. Where is the 100kg weight savings you were talking about? How do you defend your original claim of the GT-86 being 200kg overweight? Reality suggests there is not such a gulf between the Miata and GT-86 as you had originally claimed. Ask yourself: Is that poverty-spec model coming to the UK, and if not, why not? Sorry, but thinner (likely non-legal glass) isn't going to lose the other 60kg you're asking for.
Now, I'd say that 60kg is doable if you could subtract the wheelbase and accompanying sheetmetal to approximate the greenhouse of the Miata. But that's not exactly an easy mod, now is it! Thus, the cutting off of the leg analogy...

having watched Harris's video about this car.... I'm really enthused.

All this talk of numbers, weights, specs is missing the point: Toyota and Subaru have built a drivers car again! Bravo!

it's not the specs, it's not the numbers, it's not the vital statistics.... It's the way it DRIVES that is to be celebrated. biggrin

this could be genius marketing by Toyota, knowing people are going to instantly tune the nuts out of it, they sell it with the body parts that are most commonly changed by tuners, unpainted and ready for removal.

They could probably spec a LSD, but the tuning houses that will get their hands on them will do that themselves probably.

Drifters are gonna love this spec, well minus the lsd, as the bumpers are the most common parts they bin during a competition wink

To be fair, it is common practice in Japan for cars like this to be sold in that spec for that purpose, rather than an innovation from Toyota.

It's genius. Why won't the UK importers offer it here? Yes, yes, I know the answer is "money", but if it works in Japan?

From the Chris Harris testdrive, we can assume a mechanical LSD will be an option to replace the torsen diff- for people who want to race, drift or just a more aggressive locking action on the road. Presumably this option would also be available of the very basic model, in which case I'll have one please.
