To be half-way serious, I live in a country where home invasions are a very rare occurrence (maybe it's the risk of an arrow in the bum smile), although we have had a few car-jackings recently.

I usually leave my car keys on the coffee table, and would definitely challenge any burglar, but as a slightly-built over 50 year old, I have no illusions as to my ability to fight even one determined assailant, let alone two or more.
Especially as I don't have a staircase.

In order to steal the car I care about, the burglar would need to bring a set of valves and a head gasket, and I doubt they could get the engine reassembled before the police arrive smile.

A threat to my wife would be a different matter.
Ehhhhhhh? You won't have to '...challenge any burglar...' If you've left the keys easily accessible on the coffee table!!! That is the whole point of this thread/discussion you numpty! They'll break in quietly, steal the keys and the car while you're asleep!

Yes you may not have the skills to fight that's why you can take steps and make preparations to give yourself an advantage of that scenario ever plays out.
Of course you could always just send your wife out there to deal with them.......

Is that what the marbles are for?

When I had my Polo G40, at the time there were quite a few thefts of them around the area so for a good few months I used to remove the rotor arm from the distributor. 😁 Try driving that off!

I did hear of an gang though that would have some jack up wheelie plates, jack car up, place plates underneath and off they go to a car transporter round the corner.

As another thought, if you could get an escalator like they had on gladiators (treadmill on an incline) at full speed no one is getting up the stairs and even if a freak of nature did they would be so tired it wouldn't be that hard to fight them.

Anyway I'm off to buy some marbles, fire extinguisher and some cigarettes - I don't smoke but might be a cool way to blow up my car like in die hard, if I lose the staircase battle that is.

If you've found some marbles they probably belong to castroses.

You could buy a claymore mine, put it in the stairs facing out towards the front door. Have some way of only wiring it to activate if you have pressed a switch? Claymore mine would take out all 4+ of them at once.

Or you could get the schematics for one online and build it with enough shape charge purposely designed NOT to kill but to maim. Even some shotgun shells would work if you can figure out how to detonate them.

I would be tempted to put a child gate halfway up, a tall one, with the latch in some awkward place or some awkward way of locking it shut. Ie a way that isn't clear at 4am in the torchlight.

It's good to have thought this scenario through and I agree it is keys in a logical place and let them help themselves. The best preparation I have at the moment is a £3k Auris and a hand me down Mondeo...

One thing I would say in all honesty is that in my 40 years, I have met 1 for sure, maybe 2 people that would without a doubt be prepared in a seconds notice to have a proper go and I'd rate their chances of defending their home. That is 1 or 2 out of all the multiple of thousands of people we all know. Small odds.

They have motion detectors in their drive way and garage, are tooled up, heavily experienced with or without those tools and just that type of person who is instantly effective at incapacitating someone with extreme violence.

I'm not sold Catsroses chap is one of these types or just a troll, but in my previous conversations with the 1 proper prepared home defender, they similar to Cats can't work out why every man wouldn't do the same.

Final comment: I've thoroughly enjoyed the humour in this thread. Some crackers :-)

I suspect that they either have serious professional training behind them, or serious prison time behind or ahead of them.

I'd burgle your house for the keys to that!
