Just to add some balance, I'm sure there are thousands of happy AM customers out there as well as some disgruntled ones.
As others have said, it does sound like there is more to this than we are aware of. May not necessarily be material facts, but we have no idea what tone the conversations have had on either side as the discussions progressed.

Wasn't there a story about a guy who put a deposit on a Porsche gt3 rs and the dealer decided not to sell him it and sold it elsewhere and he sued Porsche or that dealer anyway and got quite a lot of money out of them
I think Aston need to cut their losses and sell the man his damn car

How will selling the car cut their losses when they could just give him back his deposit and sell it to another person? They are not going to lose out from this situation and have lost (financially) nothing yet.

At the moment they only look like 'tits' to a very small section of individuals on an online forum. Most of whom (probably) will never be able to afford to buy an AM anyway.Given they have decided to tell the OP that he cant have the car anymore, they don't seem to be losing too much sleep about people thinking they are tits.

What is the right thing though?- Sell the OP the car at the agreed price even though it is in the wrong colour and has the wrong finish on the roof? (The OP doesnt appear to want this without compensation.)

- Cancel the existing contract and sell the car for the original price to someone who doesn't mind the colour/roof options? (What seems to be on the table now).

I have had no heated exchanges or arguments with either the dealer or AM.
As things go i think i am a pretty undemanding customer and i'm sure many others would have had a lot more to say if their car had arrived in the wrong colour.
The issue is based around the fact that they think i will sell the car.
Perhaps it wasn't the best idea in the world to start this thread and a apologies to AM for that. I don't believe i have posted anything offensive on here and at worst have made some throwaway comments.

Also as mentioned earlier, i'm sure this thread is not going to loose them any business but i'm sure they do care what is written about them on these pages.

This is a travesty but if money exchanged hands it is a binding contract anc I am sure you have a signed copy of the contract you have signed. I have unfortunately not read the entire thread but as I am recall basic consumer law is that goods should be as described. If there is then an added issue of the goods raising in value please look at the Porsche example above.
It worries me as I am one of those prospective purchasers of an AM and this has given me real food for thought reading how you have been treated. If you were to keep the car you would then be into the AM network to maintain the service history etc and who knows you may well want the DB11 or other car that AM produce. Not good for customer service

Is the deposit paid on the car any different to that on a house? If a house purchase 'falls through' - after deposit but before completion - can the buyer or seller sue the other party for any additional 'losses' due to a change in house value (either higher or lower)?
I very much doubt that any 'consumer interest' programme would be interested in this case.

That's all very different surely. If the sale falls through before contracts are exchanged, ie it's a sale subject to contract then it's too bad. After exchange of contracts then it's a different matter and if it subsequently fails to complete then various costs can be recovered subject to the terms of the contracts which have been signed.I very much doubt that any 'consumer interest' programme would be interested in this case.
If you want a parallel to house buying I'd say it's at the stage where contracts exchanged, deposit paid, searches done, then just before completion the buyer finds that the seller has knocked down an extension or ripped a bathroom out. Therefore the property is materially different from that which he agreed and contracted to buy.
