I read a while ago that he's had it for a similar length of time as Nick Mason (so late 70's/early 80's maybe) when they were expensive, but not £50m worth, maybe he's still got the same attitude towards driving it, neither of them seem to be particularly precious about them.
Nor are either of them short of a few quid either, which probably helps!
Mason paid £37,000 for his car I believe.Nor are either of them short of a few quid either, which probably helps!
I wonder (dread to think!) how much Nick Mason has spent on keeping the GTO running / racing / repaired over all these years.
I bet even he wouldn't want to know!![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
It's utterly brilliant that he he doesn't seem to be bothered by its current value and still enjoys it for what it is and what it was built to do!![cool](/inc/images/cool.gif)

Bentley Barnato test car heading north past Preston on the M6 yesterday, all black on a 66 plate.
I am guessing it was something to do with the new car as it was much wider than a continental and had a much lower teardrop shaped roof. Also the entire rear was cloaked in squared off body work that ran from the doors to the rear under the window with what looked liked Bentagya lights.
Ironic really as it was the blatantly mis matched disguise that made it stand out!!

Still a tiny fraction of the value of the car though. Let's say a total nut-and-bolt, bare-metal restoration cost £500k, it barely makes a dent in his total return. Once every ten years still doesn't dent it.I bet even he wouldn't want to know!

if you put £36k in the bank in 1960, what would it be worth now?
If you're referring to buying a GTO ,it didn't cost that new in 1962-4.Quoting Wikipedia ,which is dodgy ,car cost $18,000 new.
Nick Mason bought his much later for 36?K
I think he bought the car in the mid 70's so still about £344k
Not bad for some tub thumping.
