What’s the best looking 4 door saloon car ever?

I’m just going to keep posting the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf here until either everyone stops talking about BMWs or someone buys me one.
That is rather smart.I really don't get the people saying BMW, some of them are pretty innocuous but most are below average for looks and never are they the best looking in their own segment at the time

Well once you find it you might stop posting pictures of that car. Good luck in your search.yonex said:
The M5 was the original Uber saloon for the masses, it’s undeniably a classic.I know it’s fashionable to dislike BMW but this place is getting very weird.
Actually very expensive at £31,295. Not far off the price of a new Ferrari 328 and the same price as the average house in the UK at the time. Not at all a car for the masses. It was probably the best fast 4 door car for the driver at the time, just not the original fast 4 door.

I don’t dislike BMW at all. Have even owned two, although neither were fast ones.
I guess the M5 could be considered for the European market in some ways. But then I suspect in its day most people would have said a 3.8 MkII Jag was a pretty hot performance saloon too, which pre-dates the M5.
And if we head over the Atlantic. Chevy offered a 4 door Impala SS back in 1961 with a 409ci (6.7 litre) motor putting out 425hp.
If we're talking US cars then surely the '66 Chrysler Hemi is the one I guess the M5 could be considered for the European market in some ways. But then I suspect in its day most people would have said a 3.8 MkII Jag was a pretty hot performance saloon too, which pre-dates the M5.

Yes, the Jag, in its era, 100%, but I ave never liked the looks of them, which is what the thread is about. For me E28 is just the absolute embodiment of the time, and one that still looks fresh today. BMW have lost their way, as have all the mainstream makers due to all the daft rules about impact and safety, 4 door super saloons these days are almost impossible to make pretty, even Aston struggle with the concept.

I was talking more about the comment “original fast 4 door”. That the poster made. Which in the mid 1980’s the BMW M5 certainly wasn’t original as fast 4 doors had been around for decades by that time. As for the looks. I suspect the Jag is also the embodiment of its time. And I’m not sure either look modern. Although arguably both still look great.

That's a bold claim. There must have been loads prior to1985
Not as quick as an M5, but 250bhp and 0-60 in 7.3 sec must have been astonishing in a big saloon in 1968!
Please do not burst the BMW owners bubble....."first fast 4 door".....LOLNot as quick as an M5, but 250bhp and 0-60 in 7.3 sec must have been astonishing in a big saloon in 1968!

Original fast 4 door
Are you seriously that blinkered? Do you live in a wardrobe or something
What out-gunned the M5 by 1985?Are you seriously that blinkered? Do you live in a wardrobe or something
Plenty of sporty saloons, but the M5 put a supercar engine in a saloon and a new genre was born, Thema 8.32 being a close follow-on.
Lotus Cortina was 'just' a tuned Cortina, and more about the suspension that implanted supercar engine.

Well once you find it you might stop posting pictures of that car. Good luck in your search.BMW bashing is still popular I see. People trying to be edgy, except when it is done by many it is not edgy, it is sheep like.
The E60 has aged well but is far from the best looking 4 door saloon.
The E39 M5 is imo one of the best looking modern 4 door saloons. Best of all time? No.
Do I know what is the best looking 4 door saloon of all time is? No. But I can tell you what isn't. That God awful Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf thing. Even Rocky from the film Mask is a more aesthetically pleasing thing.

BMW bashing? No one has disputed the M5 was the fastest 4 door saloon when it launched, just that it wasn't the first fast 4 door saloon. That's it pretty much.

Fast saloons? I don't know there were really. In 1985, the M5 was supercar quick. Not sure any production saloon had ever been able to claim that?
That 1968 XJ12 I posted is also faster than some 80s supercars, albeit probably only in a straight line Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
