Interesting. How do you find the 330d coming from the RS4?
I often wonder if I could do the 330d or 335d thing as they sound so good on paper. But always decide I couldn't live with the sound or apparently the woeful 4wd system in the BMW. Would be interested in your thoughts going from a high performance petrol to a diesel?
I went the other way, owned a 335d for a couple of years, albeit not a Touring, and went to a B5 RS4 via a couple of other things. For me the BMW is an incredibly functional tool, and on paper ticks so many boxes, but in reality has zero character. Only thing I miss is the MPG
I'm another one that thinks that if you really enjoy a nice petrol engine...a diesel engine will eventually grate on you a fair bit once you've appreciated the mpg gain for a while. I went from a X5 4.8iS to a 520d touring and it was a big culture shock! I really liked the 5 series though and it was lovely to drive but the engine was a step too far for me.

Didn’t know you’d had a 4.8 X5 Lee. Lots to like about a silly-engined SUV, and that’s a superb one in those

I did love the engine to bits thanks. thumbup

There was a lovely feel good factor about that car I thought, and I only got rid of it because I couldn't keep up with the fuel bills because it was my daily. I loved the experience of having one for sure though. smile

That’s probably because you went to a 4 pot!
After my 330d I had a 320d for a while, I was so disappointed with how much difference there was performance and sound wise.
The most annoying thing was that the 320d wasn’t that much better on fuel, certainly not enough to make up for the worse sound and lower power!
I’ll never buy another 4 pot diesel again, but would happily have another 6 pot.

Yes and spot on!

I used to have a 330d that I really liked. I've also had a couple of 6 pots(640d/GLC350d) since the 520d...so I've not been completely put off by the experience of the 4 pot! biggrin

What's the Merc? I cannot make out the reg.
S211 E55K
Or a W211.
W211 = Saloon/Sedan

S211 = Estate
Which I've always found odd, especially as Merc refer to estates as a Wagon.
I think that Mercedes refers to Estates as Kombi?

Other model codes are:
A = Cabriolet
C = Coupe
S = Station Wagon
V = Limousine
VF = Pullman
W = Saloon (Wagen)
R = Roadster
X = SUV vehicles (although G-wagen still comes under a W prefix!)

I’d love a VF V12 Bi turbo smile

Totally agree. The 4 pot diesels although may have decent power per liter on paper have zero character and no decent sound combined with peakier power and torque curves than a diesel with more cylinders. Ill happily keep my Volvo D5 long term as the engine certainly isn't a chore to drive and actually has a nice sound to it when opened up a bit. If you also have a petrol powered car to enjoy then all the better.

Vauxhall (although rather, Opel) referred to the Vectra estate as the Vectra Caravan, which obviously means something else in modern German than the modern English. What linguists call "false friends".

Is 190HP considered fast enough for this thread? If so then I'll grab a bucket and sponge, give it a clean and post some pics, if not then pass on the pics but cleaning it will at least pass some time lol.

Looks lovely. I part exd my performance last month having had scum break my house at 3am to get my keys I just couldn't have it back. I really loved that car as it literally did pretty much everything you could want.

That’s what my ‘91 Alpina Touring had. It certainly felt like it was going quickly at anything above 120, even if it would struggle to keep a modern 518d honest

I think right now even a ruined engine with 0bhp but in a sporty estate shell is fast enough to be here I’m given most cars are have been and will be stationary for months

Fair point, ours isn't very sporty looking though which is part of the fun, even if its not going to cover much distance for the foreseeable feature...

Its a 2019 Seat Leon ST with the 2.0TSI (190/320Nm) and 7 speed DSG - still wet in the pictures but at least that way you cant see all the bits i've missed lol.
