The manufacturer has this offer to get bums in seats to try and sell the product not so any Tom Dick and Harry can take a new car for a drive that they have no intention of buying.

The manufacturer does it to get the cars out there and seen and talked about. Seems to be working, weather more end up being sold as a result remains to be seen.If I get a 24hr test drive in a van, am I allowed to use it to move house??

Surely seeing if you want one is the purpose of a test drive? You never know; I might have been persuaded to get a loan and buy a brand new laguna by my test drive. Fortunately I am not seriously mentally ill so I wasn't and didn't.

Your 24 hour Test Drive booking details are as follows:
Haven't had a phone call as of yet, but I've been interested in the R26 since it came out so I hope they can arrange it. Not sure about providing my own insurance though, that may hinder things slightly.

Right, bugger. No-one wants to lend me one for 24 hours (I think mainly because their salesmen like to take them home at the end of the day). They said they could lend me one for a couple of hours, but that's about it. Basically the same for the whole RS range.
Ok so now I need a car for tomorrow, any other suggestions?

Yes that is the purpose of a test drive but not everyone taking one of these cars is interested in changing just a few days in a new car, just read the comments like the person who said " He will have to take a drive to Scotland"

me off the amount of people that waste our time.
This offer didn't waste any salesmans time. Renault book a hire car from Avis for you. As a salesman it really

Surely anyone who comes for a normal showroom test drive is at least considering buying a car? Isn't it your job to deal with these people? Is anyone who doesn't buy the car they're test driving a time waster?

I've been to showrooms/on test drives and not been interested in buying a carWe used to go to the Porsche showroom in Guildford just for free coke and chocolate (I was 18 at the time)

You would not like my showroom then as you would have to pay![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Another test drive?! Can't believe it! Good work Renault.
Had the Laguna for a weekend about a month back. Was a 1.5dci 110bhp hatch. Despite the s
gging it has got on this thread I was actually very impressed, if not but the design of the interior but the quality of it, the looks of the exterior (really) and the engine (really again!). Felt a lot faster than 110bhp, cruised at 100 leptons very nicely and helped me beat my all time time record from London to Devon. Didn't handle like it was on rails but was comfy and very economical.
At 26 and skint I won't ever be buying one in the near future. My respect for Renault has gone up massively though and their claims to be trying to be one of the top 3 manufacturers for quality and reliability a hell of a lot more convincing.
This offer is open to people taking advantage. But for a company the size of them it really won't matter, the free publicity it is getting is very valuable and the people s
gging them would have never ever have bought one anyway.
If I was in the market for a rep mobile company car, I wouldn't go for the Mondeo unless it had some decent wheels on it (Ford really shouldn't be selling them with some of the alloys it does, destroys the look of the car) but I would really consider the Laguna. Comfy cruiser and slightly individual.
Now for this new offer I'm going to see what I can get for the weekend. No I won't be buying one soon but who knows in 5 years they may well have a rather large cheque in their hands for a Megane Mark 3 R27 300bhp!!![cloud9](/inc/images/cloud9.gif)

I'm no marketing expert but 30 pages of posts about how it's a slow, ugly, badly handling bag of s
t with a nasty gearbox is probably not what they had in mind...
Better than the old laguna though I suppose.
Not an expert either but more people have seen them on the road who dont read Ph and may think that looks nice ill pop to the dealer and have a look, more people are aware of it and may be swayed from a vectra or mondeo if it fits their needs. Oh and there's always a %age of people who think hmm renault lent me a nice shiny car when I was stuck for a lift, what a top bunch of blokes ill go and see how much their new stuff costs now I have a better job and a bit more disposable!![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

Exactly, well said. It's cheap for a reason so shouldn't have to compete with A4 C class and 3 series anyway. Put it next to a Vectra or Mondeo and it is pretty convincing IMO. Love that new C5 though!Plus with the Laguna you get a 100,000 mile warranty. Even though only over 3 years if you're doing 30k miles a year thats damn good.
Best of luck to those Frenchies.
And no I don't wear a beret and carry a baguette at the weekend

Well, I did have one booked for collection tomorrow morning, but just received this email:
[...]Unfortunately we will not be able to supply the Megane 230 for a 24 hour test drive. This is because our insurance does not cover it. If you would like to get back to Renault and ask them to supply one, i am sure they would be able to help. Thanks again for your enquiry. [...]
Hmm, but I did book it through Renault!
I'm gonna go ring the garage now, and then maybe apply again but use my work postcode and therefore a different dealership.
