Haha! Cheers, Amir! Glad you like them!

A good mate of mine recently picked up a '72 W130 280S in really tidy condition. It's an original HK car that was also featured in a HK movie a few years back. So on Monday we went for a waft around the New Territories out where I live and I just loved it. It's quiet, rides great, has room to swing a tiger and gets lots of positive reactions everywhere you go. I imagine HK was full of these back in the 60's and 70's but they're a rare sight these days. Anyway, hope you like the car as much as I do... Now, I'd love to upstage him with a coupe version wink

Whilst we're at it, a different kind of Merc altogether. Cool points to the 280S for me...

Hello Pistonheads. Not a huge update from me but thought I would share some pics of the little rollerskate I recently bought for beer money off a friend. Since the early 90's I've been mad-keen on quirky Japanese cars and for some reason always wanted to have a true Japanese Kei car, i.e. 660cc, turbo, AWD with matchbox dimensions, so when the opportunity recently arose to get one at a knockdown price I couldn't resist it. It's a '01 Suzuki Kei Works which was the 'sporty' version of the Kei. A friend that I always talked about getting a car with (the idea was an R32 GT-R...) and I are going to share the project and use it as our ticket into the Sunday car meets here as it's quirky and rare enough to qualify. One of the cool things is that it has the much used Suzuki K6A motor in it, which is the same as the Cappucino and the new entry level Caterham 7. Hopefully that car will be popular and more Euro companies will start supporting the K6A aftermarket mods scene.

It's got 115k km on the clock and is in generally very tidy condition with the interior looking pretty much new. Previous owner was apparently a bit of a boy racer and it's got a few mods including, HKS boost gauge and turbo timer, full Tanabe Sustec suspension and front and rear SuzukiSport srut-braces. The only real kicker is that it's an auto (aaaaargh) and it doesn't have the Recaro seat option that a number of the Kei Works did. So we are going to search the local breakers and see if we can't find us a manual box and some Recaro seats to drop in it.

Immediate plans are to fix the driver's side HID lamp that seems to have fallen apart a bit, find some panels that fill the tow-bar holes (although I think they actually add to the asymmetrical look) and sort the brake pads as they can get pretty spongy after some brisk downhill driving. The barry boy in me also says a nice whooshy/whistly dump valve is in order and probably an induction kit and a few simple engine mod bits n bobs like that. Maybe if I can find a period double-DIN stereo we can stick that in too. Friends are suggesting dropping it on some 14" TE37N's or Watanabes with thick rubber, but I kind of want to keep it looking standard as most Japanese stuff like this here gets modified, and as I get older I prefer things original. Anyway, it's not the R32 GT-R that we wanted (yet) but it still puts smiles on faces!

Wotcha PHers! Jeez it seems like I haven't posted here in such a long time, confirmed by having to re-activate my ability to post in the forums. So, quite a lot has been going on since the last post, mainly with proper work, but there have been a few opportunities for some camerabatics, including a couple of gigs, one of which was with Porsche's distributor in HK.

Will start with a couple of odds n sods from a few months back and then end with some of the later photos that I've been able to take.

Here's one of my little Kei Works, although it's not had much of a clean since then... Still going strong though and has been a good little workhorse for yomping gear and photographers around HK, if a little gutless.

Really? That's so odd, living in HK everyh other car on the road is a Toyota, and that's an understatement, almost every car here is a Toyota (or Merc.) and I can count the amount of broken down cars I have seen here in fourteen years on two hands, and none of them was a Toyota apart from the odd work out taxi. Thanks for the heads up though... Most used cars here come with no service record so it's mainly a gamble anyway.

Well, what a fantastic weekend of motorsport and photography down at the Sepang International F1 Circuit that was! Four of us headed to 'sunny' Malaysia tasked with photographing the Touring Car Series Asia (TCSA) touring car races, practices and quali, part of a great race card including the thundering cars of the GT Asia series, some single-seater action with the Asia Cup Series and even a bunch of classic Minis! Weather went from the sublime to the extreme but was never dull - if Saturday was a day for shorts and sunglasses, Sunday was more suited to Speedos and goggles with a torrential downpour just before the start of the race day lasting until early afternoon. Fortunately despite the terrible conditions we only had one short red flag period and the rain did nothing to dampen spirits, neither on the track nor behind the lens. We came away having seen some cracking close racing captured in some great photos! I personally can't think of a much better way to spend a weekend, so a special thank you must be said to the organizers of the TCSA for making us feel so welcome and helping us get as up close to the action on track as possible!

Here are a couple of photos and there are a shed-load on my Flickr here https://www.flickr.com/photos/48817379@N03/ I have about six thousand photos to wade through and will be uploading more over time.

There's some super cool cars over there.

Sorry if you've already answered this, but what's the deal with personal registrations over there? I see quite a few have car-specific ones, are they extortionately costly do you know?
No worries! Basically, a few years ago the government introduced the PVRM (Personalized Vehicle Registration Mark) scheme, with plates sold on an auction based system.

'To provide more choices of vehicle registration marks to vehicle owners, the Government introduced a Personalized Vehicle Registration Marks (PVRMs) Scheme. Under the Scheme, a vehicle owner can choose his/her preferred vehicle registration mark, apply to the Transport Department (TD) and use it upon approval following a bidding exercise.'

The procedure is basically as follows...

Stage 1: Submission of Application
Stage 2: Selection of Applications by lot
Stage 3: Checking against Basic Combination Requirements
Stage 4: Payment of Deposit
Stage 5: Vetting
Stage 6: Auction

You can have what you want up to 8 characters/digits, but the applications are vetted by a panel for anything dodgy; i.e. no swear words, no triad connotations, etc. Although a few have slipped through the net! The bidding starts at a few hundred quid and anyone in the room on the day can bid on the plate. If you lose the auction I think you get your deposit back.

Ummmm.... I am in two minds about posting this as A) there are a lot of photos and B) it seems a bit crass having my company watermark on them. But, my excuse is A) gone are the days when photo dumps on internet threads used to have things like ***WARNING 56K MELTDOWN*** etc. in the title and we mostly all have decent internet and B) well, all the photos uploaded to my Flickr have the watermarks on em.
