RE: SOTW: 1988 Ford Granada Ghia 2.9 V6
Discussion
We had one of these years back, for driving around the fields in haha
Was actually quite nippy for grass-tracking.
Main reason I had it was for spares for the XR4x4 engine. The guy who had the Granny before me also had it for spares for the XR4x4 which he no longer had
The Cosworth 24v ones were pretty impressive, but again, the engine was best in an XR4x4...

IIRc Ford's own engineers dropped that Cosworth lump into an Escort??!! How mad would that have been
Yes, it was an Escort Cosworth sans wing and only rwd....pitched at the Golf VR6 sector. A guy called John Bull did a lot of evaluation miles in it but it wasn't taken up. Smike said:

My mates dad had one of these in bright blue, back in the days when you didnt have to wear a rear seat belt. It was brand new on an F plate. He went from a BMW 7 series to that car.
I always remember when he went round a corner you would slide across the back seat!
It was very very cool and I think its a top shed!

Hmm, you may be right there, this was quite a while ago, a quick Google has revealed nothing.
Somewhere in one of many boxes of old car mags/brochures i have got the issue of Cars and Car Conversions that featured that Escort although i do remember it being a mid metallic blue....... but the mention of a second one that was red rings a bell....As for SOTW, i love it and i'm having to fight myself from not bidding!! Drove a mates 2.9 ghia a few times till the gearbox gave in completely, there was a stage where it would kick down at 110mph!!
My dad chopped bought my mum hi previous company car (1989 Audi 100 2.0e 5 cylinder - lovely car; kept for a coupl of years and sold at a profit..) for a 2.0 Granada Ghia X.
Hated every minute of it, moaned about it for the next 2 years before he could change again (went to an Audi 80 Avant which was OK and then a 318 Touring which was cracking).
mY one memory of the Granada was going on a family holiday to France and it not realy pulling properly after many hours sitting at 80-90 on the autoroute. So we took it to a Ford garage in a French village and I - with my schoolboy French - attempted to explain to their mechanic about the lack of er, va va voom. He had no clue what I was on about, so took my dad for a drive in it to see what was up. Scared my dad sh*tless and the car just sorted itself out after it had sat fot a while.
Bloody massive - and heated seats in the sub-Scorpio Ghia X - but a bit crap really. Mates dad had a Scorpio for about 10 years when as a high heid yin in a building firm he could have chopped it for something newer, guess he liked it.
