I used to drive an XJS back in 1990 when I was 23 so I am joshing. My father had one as a co car and used to lend it to me (until someone decided to vandalise it). Although yesterday a convertible XJS went past my house and the owner did look like he might be a little frail. :-)

Ah great, so now what am I supposed to do with the lynch mob - hired out for the day on a non refundable deposit they are.

23 in an XJS - must've been hard handing the keys back each time.

I hate getting XJS' behind me - the driver is likely to be so old they might delay their braking in an emergency or their slippers might jam under the brake.
Well I'm a youngish 44 with a full head of hair, usually with my PJ's on and a nice cup of Horlicks in the cup holder. biggrin
Ready the lynch mob! biggrin

Yes David but what a thorny old tale it’s been.

Mine will very shortly be for sale but I’ll share a few tales of ownership.

Mine is a 7.0 supercharged Series III so not quite a Le Mans with the droop-snoot but mechanically the same.

Yes they are thirsty, truly epic when pushed but hung in sixth they will lope along in the ‘mid-teens’ just about anyway.

Quite why anybody would want to put an LS engine in one is absolutely beyond me, don’t forget the block in one of these is pretty much the same one that won Le Mans in the TWR cars.

Power and performance, properly fettled they do make their power, mine would certainly get to six hundred on the rollers but heat can be a big issue with all that firepower wrapped up in some very elderly technology

Mine went to Le Mans last year, so it could have been mine that got spotted? It made it there and back so as such passed its test just fine.

Questions and answers are a pleasure, here’s mine but not a great pic.

I used to like it as the car was quite low and mean, reasonably rapid but I didnt like going round corners when it was a little soft on the limit.
I had a Golf GTi around that time which was a 'better' car to drive but less of a pose! My friend had his dads 928S4 and another his dads Testarrosa - what a buch of t055er5 we were.
The lynch mob will never catch me unless they have wheels on their zimmer frames.

I had to check that the red one featured wasn't my one hehe

I have an identical car sat in the garage as we speak (though with only 4000 miles on it tongue out)

God I bloody love these cars. Thankfully I'm fairly sure one won't fit in my garage, so that puts paid to that pipedream!

"whereas with the later cars Lister shifted the headlamps backwards a few inches and brought the edge of the bonnet down to meet the bumper - presumably in an effort to [b}reduce frontal area[/b] and increase top speed."

Whats the penalty for working at a Motoring website and knowing nothing about basic areodynamics (or editing)? :-)

Top car BTW.

Bloody hell! It looks amazing in that colour! How does the car handle, by the way? Is it a waftmobile or a genuine supercar?

I'm sorry but it would be a crime to rip out a Jag v12 and replace it with an American v8 its a British classic for gods sake would you surgest doing the same to an old Ferrari, Lambo or whatever just because the LS9 gets better MPG and makes more power? Its kind of not the point with cars like this.
Never mind that... I'm liking the look of the old skool rotor next to it!

Well I'm blowed the red one in the pics or one identical to it was in my locals car park the week before last.
It looked pretty stunning in reality if very much it's age in terms of styling.

I spoke with a chap who used to work with Laurence Pearce who told me that's the reason they altered the front on the later cars. Please feel free to put us right smile

Actually, the car in the first photo looks pretty good. I think the XJS is a great looking car- to me they look like stately homes with aerodynamic bits.
I'll second that! I'm sure somebody else will already have by now, but hey. I think the burgundy one looks fantastic.

The pimp mobile with autobox.

1985 V12 he, full twr mods including bodykit, wheels, 5 speed getrag etc and tuned engine.
Even had lpg conversion but that coming off.

V12 engine is the key with an XJS, in my old fashioned view but I am biassed.

I had a V12 HE a few months ago. It was the best car I have ever owned and literally used to get people pointing at it in the streets, but it was mint and a beautiful light blue...

And it may have been 24 years old but it didn't hang about!
