Seems fair enough, though could have offered a free service or something.

Any more than that is totally unnecessary.

Stopped using their services. Complained to VW head office who along with dealer principal brushed it under the carpet. As I said offer of petrol. Never took it up. Told everyone I could about it. The only thing stopping me naming the Maidstone Volkswagen dealers is the policy on here.

I think it happens far too often.

I knew a twoc wouldnt go anywhere.

I always write down mileage. On our vxr's we never had an issue.

To pretend it's rare is quite laughable.

Pretty light escape for essentially a TWOC offence.

I wouldn't let them off so lightly. Letter from Soovy and screw them into the ground.

I don't know. I used to see people perpetuating this notion on the civic type R forums a lot, too, and often wondered just what they think they're driving. To the service fellas, a quick VW, a quick Honda, a quick Vauxhall - they're still just quick, normal cars.

I could understand them busting a nut to take the 458 out for a rake about, or the M6, but something a little more ubiquitous? Not sure. (And that's coming from the owner of a fast Honda, by the way.)

Update...

It was the Service Manager that had taken it home to use for the weekend! And yes, he had indeed been golfing in it! redface

He grovelled extensively on the phone this morning.

They are collecting the car off her, giving herva courtesy car and then they will give the car a full valet to remove any trace of the 18 hole course, plus replace the backs of the driver/passenger seats that have been scuffed by shoes from people in the rear seats.
Nowhere NEAR good enough.

1. Damaged car
2. TWOC - great angle - although unlikely to stick, a great threat
3. General p155take

I'd start negotiations at the next service free, at least.

The guy should be made to brick himself.

Absolutely. Please convince her to fight this. This sort of st boils my piss.
Worse than all that, he would leave a SCORECARD in it!

Kick off big, reject the car. Tell them you'llbe in later to spec the new one

Seriously. And me.

It's a nice new car, he thought he'd have a go in it, and take his kids out.

Bang out of order.

I think the problem is more widespread than people notice. I try my best to avoid mechanics as in my experiance more damage is done than fixed.

It may sound trivial but the last time my 106 1.5d went in for an MOT it came back with 50miles on the clock. I didn't question it as the car had only cost me £500... But where the hell had they been in the car? More than likely to pick up the butties, the kids from school and a couple of errands. Most people probably don't even notice the extra mileage or just shun it.

I don't get why someone would a) use the car with out consent; and then b) leave it in a state that makes it absolutely crystal clear that a) has taken place.

It reminds me of offenders that commit crimes despite being strapped with a GPS tracking device.

Completely feckless.

Bit far. A free service could be asked for but replacing the seats and a valet rectifies the damage done. The rest of it is just principle.

A few years ago, took my car in for a service.

Turned up at 5pm to pick it up to see it wheel-spinning out of the back entrance, with two young grease monkeys in it. It came back about 20 minutes later with one in it and the engine on the limiter. In my view he had taken his mate home.

Garage view was 'it's on a test drive'. They gave a grudging apology concerning th ewheel spinning. All I could do was spread the word and never use them again.

Indeed. They bleeped out the name but I'm guessing there aren't many Audi dealers In Dunstable?(by memory that was the place). I've had the misfortune to see my car having the st ragged out of it when it was in for repairs.

Abso-fecking-lutely! It's the brass balls of it really, doesn't care if he gets caught, bit of a grovel and a damp rag on the leather and job's a good 'un. Will it stop him again? No chance.

Really, a new car?

I agree with all of the above, but a new car?

And he owns a Cerb himself!

If this happens I will eat my hat. All your friend will get is a "valet". Check it over very well would be my advice. Anyone who thinks they could get a new car out of this is in la la land. I would have said I will select a valet company & get one of the people off here who work wonders with paint work etc & get them to foot the bill.

Another interesting angle would be that of driving without insurance. The owner's wouldn't be covering it as no permission was given and I think it highly unlikely that the dealer's trade insurance would cover a Sunday social trip in a customer's car, again without permission.

A very simple case to give to the local plod.
