I just can't warm to these cars for some reason.

Part of me loves the hooligan part of it but the other part doesn't like the rest of it.
It's only my opinion. But I think a good mind set to approach cars like this is:

-expect classic cars thrills and driving sensations.
-but while somehow offering modern comfort but without the detachment.
-but with a car that you could use daily and cost no more to maintain than an average Ford Focus.

Fantastic machine but really that old adage still applies: Only in America. Dreaming was nice but now it's back to the 1600 diesel whistle

You don't really understand percentages do you?

If the oil companies charged 10p per litre, the tax + vat would be 15p for a total of 25ppl. Without the government changing a thing.

The government use a percentage, the oil companies set the price and hence set the amount of that price the government gets.
You might be missing the point yes

With petrol costing £6.05 per gallon ($9.59), fuel economy worse than 50 mpg is simply unaffordable unless the car is a plaything and does no miles. Even fuel costs of a 1600 diesel are crippling.

Most unfortunately, the days of wonderful V8 power are over at least in the UK grumpy

nb Fuel duty is independent of oil price, but of course VAT isn't (just clarification in case you were confused) hehe

According to this, fuel duty is a fixed amount per litre, not a percentage. Therefore your example becomes:

If the oil companies charged 10p per litre, the tax + vat would be 71.6p for a total of 81.6ppl ( (10p + 58p) + 20% ).
The numbers (values and percentages) in the screenshot seem consistent to me. I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with. Where do you think the misundertanding is?

Just not a fan. Excellent fundamental engine design but then add a big supercharger with it's commensurate challenge of generating heat-soak, a solid rear axle, weight of nearly two tons and loads of weight over the front axle. Who is this car for?

Wow - this will have the eco warriors in a spin!
The last gasp of the great internal combustion engine? The eco warriors will get us driving electric in no time. I remember being a kid dreaming of having 500 hp under the hood, just because it seemed so outrageous. This was the early seventies when Mustang V8s had 143 hp...

73,716 Americans in 2010... not including sales abroad which is down from the peak of 166,530 in 2006

Basically, ford sells as many mustangs in the USA as it sells focus's in the UK

That's exactly the kind of thing most Brits on here don't seem able to grasp. Modding cars in the US is normal.

Even if the gt500 weighs another 200 kg over the GT it'll still only be an 1800 kilo car.

What does 'production' mean here? Mass production? Presumably that's why you can't count suff like Koenigsegg's V8.
Production should mean any production road car, which Koenigsegg's are. So ford are telling porkies!!

That's also a fair point. The point I was making was that race results are quantifiable, rather than being opinion based.

Without getting into the usual 'live axle' debate, I can tell you that the Mustang 'can' do corners as well as being a striaght line hero. Granted, it's never going to be an Elise at it, but for such a big car it makes a good account for itself smile
I should've said also that your original point about the Mustang racers was also very valid, forgot to add that. By the way, I think I'd end up crashing a Viper, Mustang, Corvette or F40 - not the car's fault, more my own limitations as a driver! (Btw, another American car that handles - Ford GT.)
