I ended up with 3 tyres at 235/40 and 1 235/50 from Kwik Fit, ideal.

The 235/50 has more tread so it will last longer silly

On topic, my local branch is pretty good [other experiences are available, your mileage may vary]

Dont know them, how about some some Falken ZE 912s....... Great tyre, as grippy in nearly all situations as the excellent and PH favourite Falken 452.

I have used 912's and 452's on a variety of cars. Cant say the 912 has ever made me think of the word 'grippy'

They do last a long time, their only redeeming feature. Certainly no match for the 452 which with most cars is excellent.

Where were these from may I ask?
allnewtyres.com. Last set I had were £56 each 18 months back, needed new at ned of summer, were just oiver £60, but put the winter wheels on instead. All seem to have jumped up about a quid a tyre in the last few weeks, but have a look. Based in macclesfield but great post service and unlike some of the German places, if they are in stock, they are in stock.
Just ordered some 195/60/15 s for £42 each. Good prices and the 912 is a good tyre.

dont confuse with the 512, which is an utter ditchfinder. On track in the Mondeo, the 912's were actually slightly quicker than the previous time on 452 but the car had also had the tailbox redesigned so was a little more free breathing. Maybe the xL construction helps or the fact it is a big car and the 452s overheat?
But I had some 205 40 17 512s on a golf and they were utterly hideous, in the wet, lethal.
The 912's certainly work well on the big Mondy, even driven very abusively on track! i am a fan of the 452 as well, have them on the Porker, but they are too soft for the heavy mondy and we only got 6k miles on the front out of them, even on the back they were mullered at 11k, (although the Mondy estate is notorious for feathering its rear tyres due to weird geo). The 912's last near twice as many miles.

The 912 is good for racking up motorway miles, but otherwise its in the same league as any other budget tyre. If your main criteria is price and you dont care about grip or handling then go for the 912 or wanli or sunny or any other cheap brand.

452s are good and cannot be compared in any way to 912s.

I have 452s on 2 of my cars at the moment and would not hesitate to have them again. I have had 912s in the past and would never have them again.

Well they were nearly a second a lap faster around Castle Coombe on a Mondeo diesel estate ghia x tweaked to 180hp. So they seem to work fine in that application. As for them being budget, they are within a fiver of the 452s so i don't get your point.
Maybe you had a bad batch or maybe they dont work on the smaller cars. or maybe you confuse them with the terrible 512's, the 912s haven't been about for that long, so if you have been a convert to 452's maybe it was 512s you had. And they were absolutley hideously awful things.

I had previously used 512's and agreed they were awful. But I did try 912's on my Omega and they were terrible when compared to 452's on the same car. Just about ok in the dry but any dampness and the back end would just slide around. 452's were better on that car but not a patch on the conti SC3's I use now.

But on the TVR and Golf the 452's are excellent and I can recommend them for those applications.

I guess the point is that a tyre can be great on one type of car but awful on another - its well documented in Omega circles that the 452 should be avoided (for example).

So we now know that the 912 is good on a mondeo, thats useful info, that they are awful on an Omega and that 452's are good on a Golf and TVR. All useful info for future reference thumbup

I live near said establishment. I won't say which one but it won't take a genius to work it out.

I cannot comment on their service but they often do burnouts in their own cars on their own car park. As in every weekend and the odd day during the week. Fair enough, I'm not too bothered but it's a residential area and the amount of noise and smoke is not really acceptable. They often have people coming out of their homes to see if it's a stolen car.

If anyone is near, have a look at the tyre tracks in the car park. That's all their own doing.

And then there is the dangerous driving on the residential street (30 limit). Wheelspins on the road at the end of each day are normal but the guy in the Sierra is going to have a big accident soon. I did actually film it as I've honestly never seen anything as bad. And everyone working that day came out and sat on the wall to watch their colleague and you're all on film.

I did go round to speak to someone in charge but that someone is one of the people involved. I was tempted to upload everything to Youtube and post a link here but someone would lose their job over it and at a minimum the police would be involved. It wouldn't be too hard to find out who I am if they saw where it was filmed.

The people that work at the one near me are obviously into their cars (and bikes and gokarts and everything else that is very loud and good for doing dounuts) and perhaps one of them is on here, or someone on here knows one of them? If so, calm it down a bit.
Ahahaha can i have the video?

I'm not willing to post it yet as it's obvious where it was filmed from (my house). But it is dangerous driving and at one point the guy very nearly mounts the pavement sideways in a cloud of smoke. I have enough on film to get people sacked and very likely prosecuted.

It happens most weekends and it's not a quick blast, it's full on screeching around in their carpark (not too bothered about this) until you can't see the car through the smoke. But what I am bothered about is them doing it in the street.

So just tone it done please and we can all live happily.

I have already deleted my current car and tried to change that pic, but like I say it is easy to find out who I am which is why I'm reluctant to post the vids.

Consider it a friendly warning. The neighbours were going to call the police and I have no doubt someone will if it carries on.

Why buy 452s when you can have the Vreds, an actual performance tyre and not the best of the budget tyre world..

The vreds are all of a £5 in something like a 255 35 18.

I too once had an air-con recharge done by them. I had to argue for a refund as 2 minutes down the road it went back to how it was.

Hold on.

I think everyone has missed something here.

£89. For an own brand ditchfinder.

Bargain.

eTyres would have fitted a ditchfinder for £20 less at your workplace or home - and would have fitted a 'mid range' tyre for only a few quid more.

Mind you, what a bloody stupid tyre size for a small car.

So you are the guy in the Sierra!

That one day was out of order and your work mates all left the carpark on to the road in a trail of smoke too after you had gone. I park on that road. But more importantly there are kids around.

I admit there has been nothing as bad as that. But that display was the most unbelievable thing I have seen in a residential area.

If you all keep it to the carpark I won't really care. But just to let you know that you guys have a pretty bad rep and it's actually quite a good community here. Someone is going to complain at some point.
