Hilarious everyone saying they like this car better then the the Toyota GT 86, it's the same bloody car in looks and mechanics. And this is what I do not get. Maybe Subaru will bring this out for £22k. laugh

Absolutely. And it will be produced on the same line. It looks like all the pressed panels are the same.

If you really want to, you can swap an EJ207 straight into it, the mounting points are the same and the gearbox bolts directly onto it.
No it wont. this is not an ej series engine its an FB and from what i have heard uses different mounting points.

I really want Subaru to drop the 3.6 liter H6 in there.

as far as weight goes I know the difference between the ej25d and the eg33 is 75 lbs, so the difference shouldnt be too much.

A 370Z (albeit with only 2 seats) is 4250mm.

Correct, but after this model each manufacturer can do as they wish with it meaning if Subaru wants to drop in their 3.6L flat 6 and turbo it they can.

Didn't realise they were so short. Still it seems like it has a more thuggish character than the 86 cars. Horses for courses I guess.

Well everyone is entitled to opinions, and I think the slightly more conservative front end and lack of rear spoiler makes it look at lot less "Fast and Furious", which is a good thing in my book. But as I'm not going to buy one, I guess that really doesn't matter!

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/08/the-truth-about-the-ft-86-straight-from-the-mouth-of-the-chief-engineer/
the mounting points are the same - tetsuya tada (toyo head engineer) has said so

that was the point, so race teams could drop in their ready made 300 brake built lumps

a h6 will not fit - the engine bay already looks cramped

I also don't get why people don't like the toyota version the 2 cars are 90% the same - the difference to me? the subaru bumper to me looks awful, like something off a peugeot

and people can't do maths, what the hell... ive read people putting that it should cost the same as the rx-8 did (21/22k) but it is 10k more... that would make it 31k - nobody official has said this!

autocar and many other journo's have been pulling numbers from their arses

again a quote from the cheif engineer was that the AE86 cost as much Yen as a Japanese Graduate's yearly salary... that was 2.5m yen, or in the queens, that would be around £21k

now, we know it wont be that cheap but toyota/subaru are not stupid, It will have to be below £24k to be any sort of success

The front of a Renault.
The side badly copied from an Aston Martin.
The rear indeed tidier than the Toyota, but nothing new.

Designers don't have ANY imagination anymore, probably mainly because cars change every 6 months!

They have just re-baged a Hyundai Coupe (S111 Version i think?).

The bottom end Jap cars are really going down the pan! It should look like a lambo or Aston or Ferrari and still cost penny's!

RX7's, Supra's, FTO's, GTO's, were what made jap cars so special (to look at anyway).

What does it take to make a car look good! Any 5 year old could draw up something better no problem!

Jap cars all look more and more like fish everyday!

Not too sure what it is in the UK, but here in Oz Subaru dealerships regularly import EJ207s that are usually bought by tarmac/targa rally teams or guys who want to swap out the EJ257 out of the current car.
About 7k AUD for a long block or 9k AUD with loom and ancillaries, so about 4.5k-6k based on direct swap rates. Turbo and cooling costs more on top of that, especially considering that this car will need fabricated plumbing. Slightly used engines and turbos are much much cheaper though.

Not exactly the cheapest exercise in the world, but stock form they deliver a bit over 300hp usually, can get a safe tune to 360hp quite easily with tune/exhaust/intake. That'd be fun, 300hp/tonne with 360hp.
As always, just a matter of how deep your pockets are.

Nope, mounting points are exactly the same.
The new engine is just the EJ engine with pretty much every facet of the engine completely redone. Mounting points are exactly the same because there was no way in hell Subaru was going to spend money on tooling up to change production of the current lineup in order to accommodate modified mountings points.

Not entirely sure if the H6 engine will fit, the turbo engine will have some trouble itself because there doesn't look like there is going to be much room for a turbo.

Having said that, Tetsuya Tada, the bloke who is chief engineer of the project went on record and said himself that you can swap the Subaru engine if you prefer it for racing or something along those lines. It was in the interview where he mentioned the stuff about the roll-cage and how the dash will have cut-outs so you can fit a cage in without having to cut the dash. Apparently the gearbox is designed to take a bit of torque too, was designed to take a turbo engine.

Those rear seats are going to be interesting, have Toyota or Subaru mentioned anything about child seats in their press releases?
Good point. Not sure there's any point in fitting any rear seats really, unless they're for Warwick Davis.

Maybe they haven't fitted them, hence the low weight ?

I though it wasn't too bad!
A bit monstrous, but all these Subarus and Toyotas also...
What was absolutely dull and even ugly was the dashboard of the old Z4;
it was less interesting than any Corean car!
