i dont think it hard to drive to a safe level at all.

but 99% of joe public are ignorant to the fact that there piloting 1+ tonne of metal.

it isnt hard to keep a safe distance. look before you pull out of a junction, check your shoulder before you move. etc etc.

its just lazyness

I agree with "driving is easy" but "driving well isn't".

Been in many cars with rubbish drivers their main problem is lack of attention to task in hand.

Driving in varying weather conditions also require different skills. It is amazing how many people I see driving at 80mph+ when it is very windy and raining hard. They then wonder why they crash??

The basics are easy. Driving in a simple safe manner is fairly easy.
Problem is too many people get complacent and don't give it the attention it requires.

I consider driving difficult because there is always something to be done better.

Most of the time it's a breeze and the physical act of driving is second nature ... as is maneuvering and reverse parking etc, I am sure this is the same for most people.
Every supermarket car park I've ever visited has illustrated that for most people, reverse parking is not second nature, but a challenge (assuming they even try).

I would change that to -
moving a car is easy but driving is not

It's a bit like pedestrians on wheels or cyclists

a more accurate description IMO:

Driving is easy
Driving correctly takes some concentration
Driving well is occasionally challenging

If you find general driving hard you should just shoot yourself for the good of humanity!

This. As with most things in life, it is relatively easy to pick up a new skill. However, unless you are interested in improving beyond the basics...

I voted "yes", so, in the minority. Because, as exhibited by so many threads here, it would appear the majority out there find it hard.
It's actually very simple, most do not consider driving to be very relevant in terms of an important skills set, to be thought about and improved.
Possibly why the Advanced Driving forum here is one of the least frequented by many PHers.

Yup, I agree with that too. I think I'm a good driver, but when I was doing my IAM training I realised just how hard it is to drive really really well. Driving well enough to get by IS easy, but being a very good driver requires a fair chunk of concentration.
