They have been observed testing these cars extensively on the highways of America. Apparently the system works very well.
I'm all for it. Seriously - who here enjoys crawling to work in the morning commute, with your clutch foot aching because of the stop start traffic. If this is the start of you being able to snooze your way to work, or relax with a coffee and reading a paper, then I'm all for it!

Traction Control isn't on every new car sold in the EU, because there is no law saying it must be on every new car. Stabilty Control is on every new car sold within the EU though.
For people that think it's a bad idea because it'll mean every car won't be able to be driven. You're wrong beacuse because it'll be political suicide, as wealthy people bankroll politicl groups. Those wealthy people will want to be able to drive their supercars, so they won't give money to any politicl groups who don't want cars to be driven.
Don't think a Noble, 911 GT3/RS and others have any stability control. They showed it on a tv series over here (Brave New World for those that didn't see it) and it looked to work very wellTwincam16 said:
Problem with things like this is that they leave large numbers of people at the whim of one large system that, due to its size, complexity and need for maintenance, would actually be quite frequently and easily disabled.

Having some experience of the (miserable) patent process you need to be as vague as possible but with just enough information to get it through. This gives you better scope to sue companies in the future!Have you seen the ones from Porsche for a 4 pot boxer engined car. Considering their pedigree you'd expect a lot more.

I have a horrible creeping feeling that there are a fair few people out there who actually like the idea. I know one guy - a pathological 'early adopter' type - who found that vision of the future appealing.I hate it too. I just feel that all the things I enjoy doing - from driving a car that allows full interactivity with all the controls on the public road, to just buying CDs and DVDs, is being taken from me.
I thought the whole point of democracy and capitalism was personal choice. Instead we get decisions restricted by what it's deemed the lowest common denominator can handle and what a relatively small number of people can make money from.
And before anyone accuses me of being a delusional wannabe EVO driving god - several generations and millions of people drove cars without these systems for over 100 years. Were they all 'driving gods'?
