It is great but I would love it more if the drivetrain turned up in a Polo at £10k less, but as a way of having a Halo differentiation variant this is a lovely brand builder. Can't get over the fact that most people driving A1s are basically driving Fabias for 40% more cost to get a different dashboard and looks.
some people can understand why i would pay £15 to eat a steak rather than pay £3 to eat a big mac, after all there both beefbakerstreet said:
The chavs as you politely call them have been fitting those style wheels to their cars for years.
...and the silly big wings, the big exhausts, stereos with lots of speakers, recaro seats, LED lights and more powerful engines from other models. But this isn't tasteless because Audi did it...M666 EVO said:

I can't understand that. I'll happily spend £3 on a Big Mac as, at times, it fulfils a need. I'm equally as happy spending £35 on a decent fillet. A £15 steak is just going to be nasty.Northern Munkee said:

Nice alloys, but otherwise why? I'd have thought for what it would cost, anyone would purchase a fairly hot A3, and as a halo model, target 1buyers don't strike me as performance orientated & VAG are rallying the polo.

They're clearly not thinking they'll sell many, hence why they're only making 333 (?), it's a tiny little car with a large amount of power (for it's size), it's got 4wd so it'll fly off the line and grip like a mofo and it looks fantastic.
More car companies should build stuff like this and put it on sale just because they can.

It'll probably be quite a lot lighter than the A3, and will drive accordingly.Nice alloys, but otherwise why? I'd have thought for what it would cost, anyone would purchase a fairly hot A3, and as a halo model, target 1buyers don't strike me as performance orientated & VAG are rallying the polo.

I admire your sentiment, but thinking it through logically it makes no sense as a daily driver, and I don't see it as a 2nd car for hooning at the weekend, the kids don't have Audi cash, and couldn't get insured, mum's not interested, and haven't the insurers wiser up to putting hotshot on mum's insurance to drive it and she'd prefer a TT if it practical. They're clearly not thinking they'll sell many, hence why they're only making 333 (?), it's a tiny little car with a large amount of power (for it's size), it's got 4wd so it'll fly off the line and grip like a mofo and it looks fantastic.

It's tiny, so completely impractical I've had an A3 rear leg room okay so long as you're not sat behind me. The A1 is not a blokes model, and 95% women I know don't want a car to grip like mofo. Though more like big alloys and wing, body kit, so yes but with 2 wheel drive and half the power will be fine. They aren't into rallying (which is dangerously close to a minor minority sport) & VAG are not going to rally it against another own brand (name a championship where they have) and if they're only building 333, and not selling it in the uk, they've realised this, I can only assume the logic they have applied is yours (because they can) or they have 1make track championship like the sirocco lined up for DTM support package.
And it does look like a Fiat 500. (hands up men who bought one for themselves as their first choice?)

So you're dismissing male ownership of the A1 & Fiat 500 ... I'd be interested to see some actual stats from a significant group size to back up sucha flippant comment. Yes they look a bit girly & cute but then have you seen how young people dress these days? And why doesn't it stack up as a daily drive? If you do a city commute but want a bit of poke for motorways at the weekend or just want the flash model then why not. Lets face it, I rarely see new performance cars being driven hard on the roads, there's a big pose factor to them & I think especially Audi which seems to be where BMW was maybe 10 years ago in aspirational image. It's tiny, so completely impractical I've had an A3 rear leg room okay so long as you're not sat behind me. As for comparing it to a 997 at similar price... pretty stupid as per usual. There will always be a large number of people buying cars who will want a new car with predictable running costs, rather than a 5 year old car that has lost 70% of it's value & still has running costs of a £70k car. Also a lot of buyers of brand new cars are company fleets who buy at large discounts from list & can only buy new.
I really like this car, performance & cute image without huge costs & good for city driving
