Ferrari F355 Vs Nissan GTR
Discussion
Difficult call if it was as an only car the Datsun would be my choice, but if you could have a second car then it would be the 355 all day long, however you won't get a decent 355 for under 40k,
You can buy 355's for 30 or 35 but you can also spend 15k getting them 'right', they are not that fast, my prodrive imprezza estate was much faster than my 355
But that's not what they are about

I don't think you quite understand his post.
He is disapointed with other people choosing the Ferrari because the GTR is a Nissan, not himself.
My point being, why be disappointed in people buying a Nissan? If they want to buy the car it's their choice, and certainly not a bad one!He is disapointed with other people choosing the Ferrari because the GTR is a Nissan, not himself.
Here's my post -

Despite me saying I'd go for the 355, I'm quite disappointed how many people are choosing the 355 because the other option is a Nissan.
Please, re-read my post again, very slowly this time. The fault is all my own, I'm so used to seeing things akin to "I'd go for the 355,I'm quite disappointed at seeing how many people are choosing the 355 because the other option is a Nissan", such is the usual cynicism inspired by the Nissan badge!

and you've STILL not got it right!!I was wrong, it IS gonna be a long night....
Ive changed my recomendation for you.Get the GTR, you'll get a 3 year warranty with it and that covers track use also.
Nail it and enjoy it.
If you get the Ferrari you'll always feel like your in the lesser car if a more modern Ferrari is near you like the 458 etc. in the GTR all the super cars would be wary of the GTR near them.
If there is badge snobbery between people having Ferrari or Nissan then there most certainly would be a little smugness when a newer one pulls up at the side if you. (not that that is too likely mind you) ;-)
Enjoy my light hearted recommendation

If you want to impress yourself, get the Nissan.
If you want to impress everyone else, get the Ferrari.
Don't believe this for one second. If you want to impress everyone else, get the Ferrari.
Owning and driving an F-car is thrilling, exciting, dream-come-true stuff. But don't underestimate the downsides - a lot of people will think you are a wker are not afraid to give you their opionion at petrol stations / car parks / etc. or just plain try and drive in your boot or run you off the road.
I didn't believe the British public could behave like that until I experienced it first hand.
If you're buying a Ferrari to impress other people you're going to have a shock.

I just opened a can of red bull. If this continues, I'm going to throw it at him.
I might chime in if that's alright?
Assuming you're serious, you should drive them both and then decide...
I've owned 2 GTR's (admittedy R33s) and have been in an R35.
I've also owned my 355 for a few years now.
The GTR's are easily some of the most rapid machines on the road with amazing roadholding. I was in the 355 on the top gear test track and a couple of them literally drove rings around me in terms of cornering pace and outright speed. Quick as the 355 is, it has nowhere near the pace or cornering ability of more modern machinery.
The GTR will also be more reliable, economical, practical and comfortable.
That said, I kept the 355. The pace is just enough to keep you happy, the roadholding and handling is extremely flattering and the noise is just amazing. The sheer joy of owning and driving it unmatched by anything else I've had the good fortune to own or drive.
There are plenty of cars that are technically 'better', but that's not really the point is it...

Driven both briefly, neither car would be on my list if I had £45k to blow (which I unfortunately don't)! F355 was special, but I couldn't drive it (my fault, not the car). The GTR was insanely fast but felt far too heavy and wasn't fun. I would rather a 997S, which I think is a good balance between drivable but rewarding when you get it right. I appreciate it's not a "super" car though.
OP have you considered a Maserati 3200/4200 or Gransport for some Italian flair?
Having said all this, a 355 came past me on the A1 yesterday and I grinned like a simpleton :-)

Maybe I'm too old for this thread, but it would be an F355 all day long for me. THe GTR just doesn't do it for me, even though it is an astonishingly capable machine that can humble exotica costing far more.
It's all about the looks (the last beautiful Ferrari in my opinion) and sound for the F355. And it is plenty quick enough in the real world. Sometimes I think more modern cars are simply far too capable and quick for their own good.
