Silly money, but a lovely car.

I always wanted a sunburst red 1600i

Were they actually much better than an XR3i, an extra 10 bhp
Would someone like to get a bit techy and tell me what the spec difference between an xr3i & Rs1600i is?

I'm guessing they were a rather limited number run in comparison.
Do you mean aside from what was written the actual article?
I only know that stuff (now).
Take no notice of me! boxedin

Sorry - I'll actually try reading the article next time too!

That is a very nice example BUT the bottom line is, it won't get sold. To anyone.

You can price a car as anything you want but you won't get it. I keep looking at the price of Intergrales and there is one on there for 80k. The average for a Grale is between 10 and 20k so 85k is just some chancing there arm and knowing they won't sell it but they are clearly trying to push up the apparent value.

So 26k is neither expensive nor outrageous. It means nothing. It won't sell.

Now if it was 8k say, it'd be gone in seconds because that is all its worth...

That is all blah

If I had one, I would want 26k for it.

Given that anyone is unlikely to pay that, it means I would never sell it. Which is hardly a bad outcome.

Only, that car is unlikely to ever be driven.

If I won the lottery, then I'd buy it and use it as my daily driver. Only I don't do the lottery.

The 85K Intergrale is a one off prototype EVO3. Think its probably worth it based on the description.

Sure the Gatrag wasn't badged as the RS1700T?
Nope the 1700T was a separate development that was intended to be a Group B car with a 1.8 BDA lump.

One was displayed next to a MK2 RS1800 at the Classic Car show in Brum late last year, I think it belonged to Malcolm Wilson and hasn't been used in for ever.

Gartrac built a RWD Escort but it was an after market affair.

I do get the impression that cars like this, the lotus twin cam escort and many RS500s to name a few belong to people who just want them displayed with silly prices to show their mates how much their old motor is worse.

However one day some silly fool like me will win the Euro Millions and start hoovering up the best examples of everything I like and will then use them as they were intended.

Car enthusiasts site buddy. You are in the wrong place with comments like that...

I think it is great example - but 26K is way over the top!
smile I just posted it for that respose, thanks!

A front wheel drive crappy old Escort for £26k does not enthuse me!

You'd have to be dumb as the people who bought these bits of Ford junk when they were new to spend 26 large on a Dagenham Dustbin. The Opel was a far better car, RWD and much quicker, the Golf GTi more iconic and the 205GTi more fun.

Really? You reckon its worth 4x times as much as a proper Evo because the description says prototype? eek

Wow, when do you intend to pay the 26k for the Escort then? laugh

I reckon that would make it the second most expensive Mk3 Escort ever if it sold at that price. It's about 15-16k too much - somebody might pay £10k for one.

What is a mint S1 RST now - £10k?

I think this is the era of vehicles within classic cars that will go pop at some stage in the near future.Ultimately its worth what someone is willing to pay, but it cannot last.Fast Fords will always have a cult following but its too soon for some of the prices currently of the 80's stuff.Once interest rates pick up will the investors still want to pay £60k for a E30 M3 Sport Evolution or £85k for an Integrale (however good its provenance) ?

Yeah that is my point, is anyone willing to pay 26k for that Escort? I very much doubt it...

Be interesting to see how long it stays at that price before it creeps down to 10k odd.

Old Escort prices seem to be ridiculous these days, but if I did want to get something nice if that was my bag, and had money for something above average, then this would be what I'd be looking at, not that 1600i. smile

Can kinda see the argument for mk1 and perhaps mk2. Each to their own I suppose.

My rule of thumb (for good design), "would you have the base model"?
mk3 escort - not a chance
mk1 2 door escort - sure.
Mk3 scorts are OK. But why are mk1 and mk2's held in such reverence? apart from being OMG rwd... Really I found them pretty miserable cars all round in the 80's and early 90's. Back then they were worth the square root of F all...
