How about old model minis? Lots around but they have a real cult following and I'm sure well looked after ones in original condition will become harder to find.

That or a mki Golf GTI, if you can find a good one for that money.

I'm sorry, but if that guy thinks he's going to get anywhere near 8k for that he's having a laugh. He must also entered some bullst contest as Concours means original, and then he goes on to list the modifications he's made to the car.

I wish I had bought a 964RS 10 years ago with a mate of mine. We were both up for it but for some reason that i now can't remember it didn't pan out.

You could pick up a good one for £25-30K back then. Have you seen how much they are going for nowadays eek

Early Saabs...
Alfa GTV
Clio Trophy
Lotus Elan
Original Mini

The early Saabs are a consideration - I'm sure I wasn't the only one to check the original 900's out when the news of the final conclusion of Saab was announced! V6 clio is appealing too - passed one locally (phase 1) on the weekend and it looked fantastic!

Talbot Sunbeam Lotus might be a good bet.........

a) rare and b) it's got genuine competition roots and success

Mate of mine has one he bought about ten years ago.....think he paid abou £3k for it. My guess is it's probably worth £10k or so now.

No, they aren't classic hot hatches. The Pug 205GTi, VW Golf GTi Mk1, R5 Turbo are all good examples of classic hot hatches.

The Nova and Astra are sheds. Rarity does not guarantee cult status, otherwise we would all be stashing away Renault Fuegos.

Are you 11? rolleyes
Well with my generation these were popular hot hatches. It's not too hard to imagine that when we're older some might want to buy the car we had in our youth, and a good condition one might cost a bit. Who knows.

There's only around 75 of them left in the UK with nearly 50 of them being SORN

I'd go with 968CS too. Prices do vary massively from 12-25k but you could get a bargain at £11-12K then hold on to it!!
Not sure why the 968 is so much more expensive than the 944 S2, broadly the same car few a few tweaks that can be retro fitted, the 944 is arguably better looking, certainly the front is though I do like the rear of the 968. I think it can only be rarity keeping values higher as they arent, I am led to beleive, that different to drive, the interior looks pretty much the same as well.

Can't see the MINI ever going up to be honest, well maybe the Works GP limited edition one but there's too many normal Cooper S's

A 968 is far superior to a 994 S2, even if they do share lots of parts. 240 bhp for a start and widely regarded as an excellent track car. I think they're better than the E30 M3's, which feel very under powered these days.

Also, I can't think of anything front wheel drive that has sky rocketed in value. Maybe not dropped but Italian, German, American and British rwd is where most collectors start.

A lot more than the original budget on some but remember when:
E30 M3's were under £10k
Aston V8's were £20k
Ferrari 355's were £25k
Porsche 964 RS's were £20k - Trippled in value +
Ferrari F40's around £100k and Daytonas at £40k
Corvette Stingrays and 1960's models must have doubled in the last 10 years.
Mercedes SL's from 1960's are similar

I reckon that a tidy, unmolested, early Impreza Sti could be worth a punt. Of course, they are currently residing on the planet chav, but I remember when Mk2 escorts were in the same category....
