Come on guys, the McCann joke is a little distasteful, particularly in Photoshop form.

Welcome to the BMW dilemma. They don't have a M version of their only sports car Z4 but they surely have X5M and X6M. Follow the money. frown

Can't fault them for wanting a slice of the Freelander / Evoque action. Piss easy money.

Oh dear. Also, Macan in bahasa, which is what they speak in Indonesia and Malaysia, means "eat" not tiger. It's usual spelling is makan.
I used to live in Singapore and we would go makan in Malaysia quite often. Porsche should be very pai say.

Exactly what I thought. Porsche have obviously watching how well the Evoque would do.

I'm glad I'm not the only person going to hell...
There's much room on the train to hell, I have a season pass smile
Save a space for me... I don't think Porsche have fully thought that name through!

I was just about to post that about makan which means dinner in Britain. A Porsche Dinner? LOL

When I first saw the story of the new Porsche name, I thought it would be delivered with a small English girl hidden in the boot.

In what way does this cars existance affect the 911?
I may be wrong, but personally I feel that this car's existence devalues the Porsche brand as a manufacturer of sports cars. However, thinking about it, with Cayenne and Panamera diesels around, perhaps this has happened already.

It just pushes the brand down a notch. This will be the Evoque competitor. Preferably in recession white. Or next year's brown.

What's with the recent obsession of having an SUV in the range and then miniturising it? First it was BMW and their awful X range, then Audi and their Qs and now it's Porsche.

Of course, if people will buy it then people will sell it.

Edit: I forgot to add LR to the list! Although the Evoque is a fantastic looking thing.

Looking forward to seeing how this car develops and hope they design it nicely!

I Love the new Cayenne. Do these additions devalue the brand as a sports car? Probably, but I've thought for a long time that Porsche of the 00's is the BMW of the 80s. BMW is now the Ford of the rep world, but it hasn't done them much harm.

Plus, more Porsches means more choice for more people - and they'll still keep pumping out awesome sports cars by way of thanks. Happy days for motoring indeed! :-)

I agree the name is pretty poor though. Why didn't they just call it the Tiger? Everyone likes tigers. They could then do a special "white series" edition with optional stripes to boost sales. Everyone would love it - who doesn't like a white tiger? I should be in marketing, me. biggrin

Looking forward to this. Along with the cayenne im sure it will be one of the best real world cars out there.

People need to move on with their ideas on porsche. They are what they are now and these mass appeal cars are what they do best. I think the cayenne accounts for over 50% of all their sales and its the most profitable car in the world in terms of markup. This isn't the same company who gave us the 2.7, the 964 and 993 RS ... Times have changed and we have to move on and accept it. If you want special get a ferrari or a zonda.

Living in Malaysia "Macan" means "to eat" as in "Macan ah?" - "Shall we go for food?"

How fuuny that it also looks like a fattened 911.

I suspect it'll look quite a bit more like this

Obviously in FWD, diesel, auto with big rimz and all that.

A commercial no-brainer for VAG.

So 911s are cheaper now? Unless they are I'm not sure how anything is being devalued.

I admit to knowing nothing at all about branding though.
