Hmm 3750 isn't 3000. You're going to have to haggle pretty hard to get it from 3750 to under 3000 as they suggest in the article.
What are these like then? I might buy one for my bird. 200 bhp doesn't seem that much, but she won't need any more than that.

No, but the article to the 3000 is 3000.

I bought a slightly neglected, 103k mile 2003 Boxster S and it is quite possibly my favourite car I've had. I did 15k miles in 6 months and never, ever tired of driving it. Nothing compares to the engine noise going through the revs, and it even did 25mpg! And it was Bright yellow...

For some reason I don't mind tastefully modified Porsches.

Although this is a 987 and I'm not into the black wheel look or the stickers, they do seem to be a little more special than a Z4 or S2000.

Plus you can get some RUF bits too =)

That video. At first I thought that looks like a nice boxster, then the wheels totally changed my opinion.

Amazing car for that wedge. People I know that own Boxsters swear by them and never have any issues. Always enjoy a ride/drive in one

I read an article in a porsche specialist mag a few months back where they drag raced a 2.5 and a current 2.9 from a rolling start in 2nd gear(or was it 3rd, cant remember), but the point is that up to 80 MPH the new car only pulled about about half a car length on the old supposedly bog slow model! These 2.5s are nippy enough and I want one (or a 3.2S) badly..!!

It has the correct wheels, stance, badge, spoiler etc. However it was in passing. Maybe I'll take a photo at the weekend.

The 2.5 is quick enough for most people 95% of the time.

This takes me back ... 2.5 was my first Porsche..then went to 2.7 and 3.2 S.. all great cars.
My running costs were fairly modest and can you can get fixed price service deals at some specialists.
This has got me seriously thinking of running a Boxster 2.5 as summer time "smoker" ...

Give me a s2000 anytime over a asthmatic poser machine. I want to know why s2000s haven't reached 3k yet
I like the S2000, earlier models are said to be better than early Z4 3.0i, but then post '04 Z4's are meant to trump the later S2000's.

Like I said, I'd still go for a 3.2 Boxster S.

As for poser machines, I personally couldn't give a toss if people thought I was posing. You could argue all roadsters have that sort of image.

Having recently bought an S1 Elise all I can say is I wish they'd plummeted to £3K or less!

I see your 3k boxter and raise you with a proper porsche; a 7k 996 911 in need of some tlc (maybe a clutch?)...

Oh, it also sounds like it's a Cat D but... it's probably the cheapest 911 with an mot out there. Track day car anyone?

Sounds like clutch to me... A gear box problem IMO would present itself much like a petulant child, either by being recalcitrant or noisy.

So, Audi TT for shed of the week then? That's alot of car for the money. Never been a fan of the shape but then at that price it's growing on me.

My brother in law had an S2000 for 3 years. He absolutely loved it and did loads of track days where he was usually very fast. He then had a 987 Boxster S for 3 years and to his surprise liked it even more. Better balanced car he said. Having also extensively sampled the 986 Boxsters, he also reckoned the S2000 wasnt really much faster than the basic 2.7 in the real world.. having driven the S2000 myself I'd agree. Get caught out of the V Tec zone and it doesnt feel very fast..those on paper performance figures dont tell the whole story....

having driven both I also prefer the Boxter (although it was a Boxter S I drove). I felt it was more fun to drive and felt more solid on the road. The Honda would make a much nicer car to live with but you have to keep your foot down to have fun, not good unless you want to rack up loads of penalty points.

I think the values are down to the cheaper running costs on the Honda and the fact there are loads and loads of Boxters around (including thrashed and crashed ones)

A £3000 boxter would easily swollow up money with a couple of new rear tyres and a service from Porsche. I used to own a 911 and the main dealer always tried to rip me off.. quoting a basic price for a service and then trying to make buy £1000 worth of tyres, even though they were still good for 6 months! Greedy gits..

Been looking at these for a while now - amazing value for money. My concern is the likely running costs - a poster has suggested £1800-2000 per year. Do those of you who have/had Boxsters agree with that?
