I am thinking along the same lines, but I can't think how it rivals a British success?
At a push it's Citroen C1 versus MINI but you'd have to be buying the cheapest mini and comparing it with the most expensive C1.

This very well established car had straight six engines fitted up until the most recent incarnation which gave it a V8.

I'll try posing a question:

It has a diesel engine with a higher specific output than a Honda S2000.

What is it?

Nope - that only has about 203bhp from 2 litres. The most powerful S2000 had 250bhp from 2 litres (JDM spec).

Hint: I might not be talking about a car you can buy in the UK.

Sorry..question fail!

The M3 was originally a 4 cylinder car (E30) from 1986 until 1992 (6 yrs)...
Then the E36 and E46 were 6 cylinder cars from 1993-99 (E36) & 2001-06 (11yrs in total)
The E9x series from 2007-12 were V8s
The new F8x M3 will revert to 6cyl motors, but will be the first forced induction M3

Seems a hint might be in order.

The car in question has recently been driven by a monkey.
