£29k. LOL.
You could buy a GT86 for less......
You forget one thing, very important... residuals.
Late (2008 on) Factory MINI JCWs have one of the best residuals, that's why I could buy another new!
I should have added a winker.... wink

I've got a normal R53

Speedy but its still just a BMW Mini - and those are without doubt, the ugliest wheels I have ever seen on a full size car. Were they modelled from some cheap Chinese toy?

Don't be so bloody stupid, you can't commute in a house.

This is what you should buy for £30k, you'll even have money left over for maintenance and fuel.

It was a joke ..... biggrin
I know, I was joining in, unless you thought buying a light aircraft was a serious suggestion? biggrin

To be fair I do like the minis but ether of our suggestions has got to make more sense than a 30k JCW GP.

Overpriced? Yes. I don't understand the comparison to the M135i though. The Beemer is 300kg heavier, and do you think it's going to handle as sharply as a stiffened, strut-braced Mini?
No idea I haven't driven either yet but stiff doesn't necessarily mean better for a road car particularly when traction is the limiting factor if you still have some lock on, like with the MINI, it's not aimed at smooth track tarmac, is it ?

They may well handle differently and fit different handling preferences, but the assumption that one will handle "better" than the other is a bit far fetched, not that "handling better" means much in car dynamics terms.

But those things are quite subjective and the comparison stems from a fairly objective (and valid) cost comparison : how come a MINI be more expensive than a 320hp/in-line 6/leather/xenon 3-dr M135i that can be bought from any BMW dealer for £27,300+paint after 9% discount when the MINI will not be discounted presumably because of low numbers ? I am a big MCS fan (only second hand though), I even have one atm, but seriously ? Would you rather buy the GP or a M135i with your own hard earned ?

the only surprising thing is that people will buy them.

Not sure why, but they will. Which is depressing.

If only BL had had so many loyal punters / mugs, they might still exist.

My MINI is small. Some 9 inches shorter than a Fiesta/Polo and 4 inches shorter than even a VW Fox, so it's like a mini car, hence the name. BMW never said they would produce a car as unusable for normal size humans as the original.

Just sayin'...
+1 You would have to be stark raving bonkers to choose a 220 bhp mini over a 320 bhp 1 series. For me BMW have thrown down the gauntlet for hot hatches with e 135M and other manufacturers will have to do one of two things.

1. Drop the price of their car
2. Increase the spec/performance to match or better the BMW.

Subaru have done this with the STi and I'm sure it wont be long before the others do the same.
Good point about the BMW, 4 seat RWD, and with 320Bhp you do not mind paying £30K for.

Looks like the 1160 kg quoted here is the official EU weight (1235 kg) minus the 75 kg for the driver that the EU spec imposes. Would be interesting to see some real weights taken from real production cars (weighbridge or corner weighting...). Anybody tried that?

'Overpriced' comes up a lot in these comments, which ironically is the one thing that it's definitely not. They will shift these with no problem whatsoever, which for me just goes to show how brand obsessed 'we' are, particularly as the universally acclaimed Megane R26R failed to get close to selling out even its tiny allocation.

Surprised that they did not use the new Coupe rather than stripping out the hatchback. Odd.
Simple reason, the coupe uses the cabriolet chassis and is therefore a lot heavier than the hatch,

Brands certainly hold a lot of influence, but this is down to basic human nature

Mini make good products people want to buy.

The 26R may be a great car, but Renault by and large turn out nothing but dross, and have done for years which is why there in not the best of health right now, one great car does not usually change perceptions over night

They don't ever give you rear seats? So it's a 2 seater hot hatch? rofl

Yes, I know of the Renault R26 two seater which sold...what? One?
I believe the UK was allocated about 230 - ish of the 450 made.

Of the 230 allocation they sold about 100

An absurd amount of money for what you get. I'm sure its quick enough, and no doubt handles well too, but for that cash you could do so much better.

1275GT, or original Mini Cooper, yes please!
Not this rubbish again the MINI is here to stay get over yourself. I'm sure you would be classing it as a Mini if Rover made it.... oh wait no you wouldn't becuase if Rover had built it then it would be now more becuase A Rover went bump and B Rover wanted to kill the Mini off in 1994.

I quite like the look of the new GP would I pay £29K for it well if I was in the market for a 2 seater hot hatch then probally yes but as I already have 2 'impratical' classic Mini's I'm more in the market for a Countryman when I next change my everyday motor (hint to MINI or Prodrive build a hot special edtion of the Countryman please)

Urgh, what an ugly car. A shame, because the engine is not bad (though I prefer the older supercharged ones, at least they were a bit different to the usual turbocharged crowd), but everything else about these is just minging. Hideous on the outside, especially in this tragically chintzy special edition, but the interior is the real crime, it looks like it was designed by a 4 year old.
