I've been admiring this beast this morning. Not entirely sure about the colour though, I'd probably need to see it in the flesh.

You're not sure? It's olive green.
How can you not be sure?

These things are subjective, and it's more of a minty colour. I don't really like the dark green that so many seem to come in.

Anyhoo, here's one of my favourite Merc specialists and my pick of his stock, which is, er, a Jag

I'm tempted to offer this chap a new website for free. He seems like a very nice bloke, and certainly runs the type of business we should all want to see do well.

But, minute for minute, I'd rather go to the pub with Gok Wan than browse his website.

I like that but it looks like monumental moneypit potential for pretty mediocre performance. Turbos/quattro/audi autobox/cambelts... eek

Weird. The Vehicle Information text box is editable to anyone who opens that page.

Just wow. Great spec.

I always think that every land-yacht Merc should have a proper bonnet mascot. I can see the 'but its sporty, innit?' half-rationale, but every proper Merc should have one - very much part of the experience, and I'd miss it.

But wouldn't want to be the type of chap to stick one one myself.

The radiator badge rather than bonnet mascot dates back to the 300SL

for (most) Mercedes sports cars.

Just seems a waste to me, to have the second most iconic mascot in the automotive canon up one's sleeve, and opt not use it on your most emotion-lead cars.

Driving a Mercedes should always feel very different, and the mascot is very much part of the fun.

Vile colour!

Regarding the Mercedes bonnet mascot, are they designed to break off on impact? I suspect they may still fall foul of the Dangerous Mascot legislation that saw the Jaguar Leaper mascot become illegal.

I didn't think new ones still had them TBH. Bloody pedestrians, bring back things like the Avions Voisin bonnet mascot.

I suspect that Mercedes may have thought about that.

Of course, though if they modified the design they could probably get type approval for it (at least in the UK, if they could make the mascot so flimsy it wouldn't exacerbate injury) but the rest of Europe may be more strict. I guess they've given up on it for good though. Still, it was an obvious target for thieves and vandals. Never heard of a bonnet mascot being stolen in a while now, though I have heard of people ticketed for driving old cars that don't comply with the law as it is now.

C class doesn't;t but the E and S still get them. They're hinged to bend on impact

You can still get an E-class with one.

They're just sprung and unlikely to hurt anyone on a scale anywhere near being hit by several tons of metal if at all.

Eh? Mercedes still have a three pointed star mascot on their new cars, it's on a sprung ball joint type arrangement so if brushed pushes back, RR also have a flip back design for their spirit of ecstasy mascot since the 80's or whenever.

The C-Class is also still available with the three-pointed star on the bonnet. It's just that everyone in the UK buys the "sport" spec with the grille badge. I don't know what sport they use them for. Someone suggested dogging, which is probably about right.

Current ones descend fully into the top of the "radiator" grille when a frontal impact is detected.

Not impressed with Falken 912's. A few "mildy moist" junctions have resulted in wheel spins and a festive dashboard.

Never had this with dunlops or contis.

Oh well.

I like it. Makes a pleasant change from the usual. Get it bought.
