Corrado Cabrio! I don't care much for soft-tops but as a fan of the Corrado, it would have been fun to see more models.
That reminds me of this, another Karmann job

That Daimler Corsica is lovely! How hard could it be to re-create one? Pretty hard if this fascinating read - detailing the restoration and building of the show car as a road car - is anything to go by: http://www.davidmarksgarages.net/daimler%20corsica...

Seeing that Golf above has just reminded me of this, the Golf with the W12 engine.

And then there was the twin engined Scirocco from the early 80s, although neither were ever intended as anything more than engineering/publicity exercises.

Really interesting post, thx. Remember reading about this in C&SC many years ago. Had forgotten all about it.

I love Pontiac's XP-883 Banshee of 1963-64. It was a DeLorean pet project but thought of as too direct competition for the Corvette so scrapped. Plenty of styling cues from the 'vette, but the reaer end is very different:

I've never seen that before. Better than a 'vette at the front. A bit like a Firebird at the rear - perhaps unsurprisingly

Loads of TVRs:

Zante

Tina

420 saloon

Griffith Speed 6

and.....

when the TVR Tuscan Challenge was launched, it was intended to sell a road going version. This was before the launch of the Griffith. Brochures were produced but I can't find any photos.....

The Corvette styling cues are really forward looking, considering the years they were built. The coupe did the rounds of the auctions in 2010 but did not sell even with bids up to $400,000. Apparently it runs well and has only 1500 miles on it.

No wonder this didn't get made as an Audi. It's a Scirocco!

Nope (well, they built a prototype). They did an E34 M5 Touring in LHD though - that what you're thinking about? A mate of mine has one.
