Chris,

I'm all for big fun with comparatively low running costs.

To me it makes sense to purchase something that you can tailor to your needs a little bit, without going 'Max Power'. I.e stock exterior, well though out upgrades... (Similar to your Tuthill built car).

The old S4 avant was a bit of Q car. Chat to Dougie at MRC tuning (www.mrctuning.com) if you want a bit more poke, they will supply the goods on a proper machine. They make a wide body S4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGVo0JOs8uo 700hp, depends on how far you want to go. They know their stuff and a great bunch to boot.

As for the Integrale, had an EVO 1 that had been 'breathed' on by some of the Lancia boys that ran the works rally cars in period, 3 stage wastegate and anything from 250-400hp and a good deal of torque dialed up via an ally knob on the dash, and before anyone jumps in, yes, with me sat in it the knob count went up to two. Seem to remember it liked clutches and exiting roundabouts with a 'smidge' of opposite lock under power, although very neutral. There has been much talk about the concept of 'flow' recently on here, well there is a car that was not 'over wheeled' and set up comparatively softly and enabled covering ground on rubbish surface easy. Brilliant car, wish I still had it. Starting to move on the price front making them an investment, although some parties are trying to control the market by buying them all up.

its hard to guess what will go up in price ,E36 M3? evo versions with 3 owners ,full history can be had for £3,000 but will they go up.i think it comes to supply and demand, there are a lot out there so wont go up for prob 10 years.i remember seeing plenty of mk2 escort, Harriers, Mexico, 1600 sport,RS 2000 in the 1980"s they sold for £1,000-£3,000 who would have thought a good one would set you back £10,-£25k now, same with MK3 escort RS turbo (all white),one on ebay auction at £12,500 reserve NOT met.yet the MK4 is cheap. like i said supply and demand,in a few years the Lancia intergrale could have doubled in price.

If you are able to get hold a 959, and you don't, you'll always wish you had. It would be a legendary move, an act of insane yet totally admirable folly!

I have a white 924S if you are interested with a new ticket and 5m tax.
Hmmm... Hmmm indeed. What sort of state is it in? If you don't mind me asking.
I would say OK to fair. Done about 150k from memory. New front shocks, tyres OK, new battery. I live near Brighton if interested.

Judging by the lack of mention of it, I think some wound licking is going on. As for the M3 CSL, they're a bit of a minefield, I've seen a couple of really abused examples, suppose it comes with the territory with the track oriented edition of any car though.
Very true, but buy wisely (used mainly on road, with the all important transferable BMW warranty) and you have arguably the finest M car ever built, with a warranty, for £30k! If Good ones don't suddenly jump to £50k I would be amazed...IMO of course

All great choices...and some are certainly on my list as well.

Ill just add one thing, if you do add a Charger, why not get one that has the pro-touring treatment! It would be fantastic to start seeing those pony/muscle cars with the new hardware in the UK. Not to mention that for the money they keep up with some of new expensive performance cars too! Well, a Charger might not, its rather large, but a Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, or Chevelle certainly would.

Am liking the 959 and M5 Touring but get a M3 CSL or M3 CS Coupe with BMW Manual Gearbox and see what fabulous cars these are (and also great value) .... You can have both and M5 Touring for the same price as ur 599 if not even more cars .... What da ya say :-)))) ?

No mention of the Ferrari 400 you tweeted about the other week Chris? smile

This would be better (if a little tricky/ expensive to go and view) anyway.

I havent read all the replies, i just wanted to say that if you trade in a 599 for a 2cv I will find out where you live, and beat sense into you with a mackerel.

That is all.

I reckon it's still a bit too soon for the E36 yet, but I reckon in the next few years.

Cars I'd be looking at:

- MK2 Golf GTi
- Corrado VR6
- Jag XJS
- Audi S2
- Capri (mk1s are already on the way up)
- Clio Williams

I reckon later Renaultsport Clios will also hold their value well, given that Renault have abandoned their loyal fan base.

Cars that will go up are 1980s cars.

Things like:
E30 m3
Integrale
Testarossa
Sierra cosworth
Other hot hatches
Corrado vr6
Air cooled 911s

They have all gone up in the past 5 years and i see no sign of that slowing down

I owned a 450 SEL 6.9 for a while. When you put your foot down, you could hear the fuel rushing through the pipes from the tank to the engine. It cost me a fortune, at time when I definitely could not afford it, but it made me smile every journey. My only regret was selling it before Ronin was released.

Matt Farah said on the TST podcast that Chris was also actively looking for a car like Musto's battle wagon (which I'm too lazy to google right now)... If I had a barn like his and the wonderful justification of a weekly video to put out then I think I'd feel perfectly entitled to spend hours surfing the classifieds! 300 SEL would get my vote, those old barges are amazingly cool, I'd also be tempted by an old XKR or a Silver Shadow - surely the car for which man maths was conceived.

I fear Mr Harris and I share some tastes in motorcars. Every time he writes one of these he mentions any number of models that I covet.....this time not least the W124 E60 AMG, Delta Integrale, E61 M5, even the marvellous 300SEL 6.3.

And I too don't quite know what I'd do with a Grosser but would love to give it a try...

I had the pleasure of borrowing an Evo II Integrale for a week some time ago.

Intoxicating, addictive and frightening are but a few of the words I would use to describe the experience.

I'd have one today if I had the money. In white with Martini livery.

Mr. Harris, I think you would consider this money well spent.
I've just swapped my E61 M5 Touring for precisely that. Monkey, any interest in swapping 599 for Grale and my 997GTS Cabrio? Also just bought a W140 S420 70K genuine. Hilarious. Simon Daukes

Love all your ideas Chris, I'd go for a standard unmodified R32 for a start, if you can find one that is frown most have been messed with. I reckon that the rarity of standard models would ensure you'd have a guaranteed future classic on your hands.

So in the pics we have a German, an Italian, a Frenchie, A jap and an American car.

How much will the 599 fetch? £110k

Lets play a game, a car from each country, see what we can come up with for the ball park figure...
