There does seem a weird defence of car dealers here on PH, even when they're liable.
Nah, it's the opposite usually - they're liable for everything, because how dare:

a) anything go wrong with a car, ever
b) they run their business as a business rather than a charity

I'm sure you could argue with them to get the fuel cost covered. Personally, I wouldn't (and didn't) expect them to cover it.

You have asked for advice, people have given it and you don't appear to like the advice offered.

You obviously want to take it further, so do it and stop asking people who you clearly don't want to listen to what you should do about it.
Agreed. I am not a fan of threads where the OP is only looking for validation of their own opinion, not a discussion of the facts.

I picked up my car last night after 3 weeks in the garage. I had asked for certain things to be done to make sure the root cause was correctly determined and the car was returned in fine fettle. I was charged for 1/3 of a tank of fuel and gladly paid it.

jokeing and Jibeing apart, They could have lost the cost in the bill, if they have had it for three weeks half an hours labour would not of hurt anyone, It would help to know what car it is as many on here may have the same car, know the dealer, shed light on the issues, if its a kia then half a tank of fuel is excessive but I can go through 1/4 of a tank curing a miss fire on my TVR in about an hour of working on it. If you had just filled the car up and had a split fuel pipe and got the car to the dealership with 1/2 a tank would you expect a full tank when it was repaired?. Chase it up by all means and I wish you well in doing so.

If I were the garage owner, I would refund you and then add it on the bill as part and parcel of the diagnostic procedure.

Given that GM used to charge £75 an hour in 2000 for a computer diagnostic on a Camaro, I imagine the fuel might be cheaper.

Screw the fuel - I'd be more interested in why they think several hundred miles road test is needed???

(I have no objection to cars needing a run with a mechanic, but surely no more than, say, 30 miles?)

Why the abuse to the OP?

His are not unreasonable questions. It's General Gassing, not The Lounge...
