...i was lucky enough to go on a factory tour yesterday and watched the F types being built. They are expensive but you know the whole damn thing is made of Aluminium, not just panels or bonnet, but as far as i could see, everything. I was also amazed at how many of the process were done by hand.

That would certainly be a keeper.

So, good job and congrats etc to all of Jag's designers and engineers, and props to Ratan T for the finance, faith and vision. "Trebles all round!" beer

But... I get that the F-type is an alternative to the 911 and Aston Vantage. But, because the V8 F-type clearly also tramples all over the XK's paws, what are Jag's medium- to longterm plans for its product range, especially the XK?

Presumably, the next XK will move up to the c. £90k-£120k bracket to be a Conti-/DB9-type GT?

Or will Jag actually drop the XK, let the F-type coupé/drophead cover its broader customer base, and introduce a sub-£45k 2-seater that'll share its platform with Jag's 3-series rival? confused

I've been following the F-Type hype very closely for some time but alas have yet to see one in the flesh.

I still honestly think Jaguar dealers will be discounting those list price by a large margin in the not so distant future.

Would love a factory tour and a chance to see all the colours avaiable.

IIRC there was some other spec issue with the V8 that made the V6 more appealing. Different LSD was it? Or is the V8 not going to be offered with a manual box were the V6 manual is due in time?

Does anyone else think that 1600kg is heavy for a V6 2 seater?
Particularly as it's mainly aluminium and only has a small boot when the Cayman is more practical and 250kg lighter despite only having a steel chassis and some steel panels.

Here you go:

I like the white ones and would wnt red calipers which means bigger wheels needed so I've gone for the style I like best which unfortunately are only available as 20s:

IIRC the XK goes upmarket apparently. 4 seater coupe based on the XJ? Oh. Dear. God. Yes.

It's an interesting one because I don't really see the differentiation between XF and XJ

If there is a manual coming it should've been available from launch imo; good looking in the photos though, looking forward to seeing the metal

I suspect the biggest "looser" from this new car isn't going to be Porsche but Aston Martin. Suddenly the V8V is looking incredibly long in the tooth..........

Also, i suspect the aftermarket tuners are going to have a field day transplanting the "S" cal into the non S denso ecu's

Think of it like 5-Series vs. 7-Series, E-Class vs. S-Class. The XJ is a lot, lot bigger (though doesn't feel it at all to drive).

I had a look on wikipedia and unless it's wrong there are only a few inches in it

There's only a few inches between a 5-series and a (SWB) 7-series, too.

My mate has driven it on track and against it's competitors on the road and is very excited about it.

Says its fantastic.

I believe the dealer cars will be out there very soon - so we can get a proper look at this little British beauty.

The V8V has been out since 2005 and hasn't changed a great deal yes

Hopefully AM are working on a new one otherwise I can see this Jag taking a lot of their sales away

Personally I think it looks great and will hopefully be a good used buy in 3 years...

An SL63 AMG weighs 1777Kg, 911 cabrio weighs 1600Kg and F Type V8 weighs 1665KG so not particularly light or heavy. I think people underestimate how large this car is, much closer to a SL than SLK.

I concur. Excellent car, well done Jag.

Put me down for a V6, would make a cracking daily.

that's true, but why are all the reviews saying how tiny it feels inside? the autocar ones says a boxster is more practical...

I must admit that as lovely as it looks and as commended as jag should be for making it, it is just so expensive. Upwards of £60k puts it into more exotic territory but it's made by a mainstream manufacturer. Someone earlier said think of it as a cheaper Aston. no way. it's only a Jag.
