In that case, I have to assume you're stark raving bonkers. Unless you care to expand on what girlfriends (I'm married with kids FYI) and Golf concpet cars have to do with each other. Bar that no girl would ever want to be seen in that monstrous VW, of course....
I was expanding on your use of semantics...it doesn't matter I'm happier looking at the images of this weird 'concept' car than I am having to teach you stuff...

Why?

I'm sure if it was an M3 with a twin turbo 500bhp engine and 4WD, then you'd love it, but as it's a VW you think it's st. Get over yourself badge snob

I like my V.A.G cars, but I wouldn't slate another car just for its badge

Blimey, that was quite a leap of assumptions there.

I'd be willing to bet that the concept pictures go some way to show the mk8 performance edition that *could* quite easily make an appearance at Worthersee next year....

Yes it is an actual car. It will no doubt be epic. But they will never make it. So what is the point? Just to create a little story: "Wow, look what you cannot have". Just like Jaguars concept time wasters over the years. Great, thanks. Moving on...

Not entirely convinced by that bulbous front end. I'd like to see it being ragged round a track!

The point is that unlike that RWD W12 one they did a few years back, this one uses the production MQB floorpan and MQB bits to make a mental car. It shows the massive capability of the platform.

I agree, VW is more a designer label in the car world in the UK more than anything else. GO other countries around the world and VW isnt even rated as highly as it is in the UK.

I have never owned or driven a Golf of any description but to my uneducated eyes, this doesn't seem like it has much in common with the ethos of the GTIs of yore. VWs in general these days are not so much the "people's car" any more, just another designer label. The cars they produce may still be very good and do exactly what they're supposed to but if the smart man fancies climbing into a VAG then I'm sure he's happy enough with a used SEAT these days. This should shirley be branded a new 'R' concept rather than 'GTI' - initials that always represented a car I have come to know in my rear-view mirror as a chuckable little twitbox with an angry young man baring down over the steering wheel.

Inside PH towers I have visions of a red phone in the centre of the editorial offices. It is a direct link to VAG PR department. PH staff sit around it and they have a contracted requirement to answer the call inside 10 seconds and publish what they are fed inside 1 hour.

If they don't comply PH is not allowed a Golf GTI ( in white ) to run as a staff car.

Massive capability that they're not going to put to use in this way?

Difficult to tell there but the CF dash in the concept predictably has disappeared replaced with VW's trademark recycled wheelie bin plastic and alcantara......Mmmmmm
