Fuel price changes whilst driving.
Discussion
Passed my test in 1999, started learning in 1998 so it was about 65p/litre or so then. I remember being able to put a fiver in and get further than "just off the forecourt" at least!
Also remember saying "it's going to be over 50p a litre shortly" in about 1992/3ish when getting a lift to school!

Around 70p per litre when I started driving in 2001. Occasionally dipped into the high 60s. I could fill my Fiat Uno for twenty quid and run for about a month on that! (although being a skint 6th former at the time it usually got a fiver's worth once a week).
Double that price now, although I currently get the same MPG from a big heavy saloon with 170bhp as I used to get from my flyweight Italian hatchback producing a mighty 45bhp...

2001 - 77.9p/litre. Wow, basically doubled over the last 10 years. House prices have quadrupoled.
Salaries on the other hand have not kept up. If I was doing the same job today, 10 years ago I would have been earning 85% of my salary today according to an old 2002 salary survey I've dug out!
Ironic then that a lot of people on here keep banging on that petrol is cheaper in real terms than its ever been... Clearly it isn't (which was obvious to anyone with half a clue tbh).
