If I was going down the route of rebuilding the engine or getting a new one, I'd run something really cheap and slow until the NSX was back on the road. It would be tough but that would make me determined to get the NSX running again!
They did an 88 bhp version of the MX5. You can get one for £600, with issues. Lower it and make the suspension really hard, and get some wide tyres so it's almost undrivable, and then you'll be happy with any other car.

Cheapest fun reliable runner would be 2002 puma 1.7 sub £1k reliable but rusty and limited head room
£1500 will get you a nice MR2 mk2, old slow but reliable.
£2k gets you an early Mr2 roadster mk3, only 140 bhp but terrific fun

And save up to get a proper engine rebuild on the NSX maybe with some extra Bhp released to liven it up a bit?

Who are you speaking to about the rebuild?

I know TGM sport in fleet do a lot of Honda re builds normally blown s2000s and ctr's that have gone pop.

They regularly look after other exotica, try giving Tom a call.

Isn't there a place over Guildford way that does NSX work?

If you get very desperate I have a retired ATR in the garage in need of a mot and service. Was running well at 186k when I parked it up last year.

Thanks for all the suggestions, the engine snapped a con rod and is in need of a rebuild or engine replacement.

As I said before I'm not planning on getting rid and just need some additional wheels as even when I do get the NSX back on the road I don't plan on using it as a daily driver anymore.
This is the first time I have heard of a conrod letting go on an NSX. Assuming there has been no overrev I would push for an inspection as this sounds like a manufacturing defect.

Are you serious?

After 10 years and 127,000 miles?

Good luck with that!!!

Actually, no, I don't wish you good luck with it, at all... This is exactly the attitude that puts the prices of desirable cars out of reach to all but the millionaires amongst us, and/or causes the demise of their manufacturers... frown

Well, if I was still in the industry and knew who you really were, I would be delighted to exercise my right to NOT sell you a car...

Do you put in claims for whiplash injuries and PPI mis-sales, as well?

Jeez...

No, but I would be very surprised if it was a conrod that had let go, and not something that failed and caused the conrod to let go. Very surprised.

OP, from your profile I see you are in Berkshire. My father lives in Berkshire (Maidenhead) and takes his NSX to Honda in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, as they seem to do a lot of work on NSX.

Nothing specific on their website but he says his is never the only one there when he takes it in.

£500 Ford KA and rebuild the NSX!
Agreed

+ another.

KA will serve you well over the winter too. The OH had one and it was practically unstoppable in snow! Then the NSX will be fixed for the Spring.

Buy something old yet reliable for sub £1k, rebuild the NSX engine over winter. I guarantee that first drive in the spring will be one of the sweetest of your life.

If you do need to buy another car then a C32 is a good choice. I still think my 2003 C32 estate was one of the best cars I've ever owned. 0-100 in under 11 seconds and very comfy. Only issue I had was a bit of rust. Look carefully for this on the arches and tailgate before buying.

I've also heard the automatic gearboxes can be susceptible to glycol contamination. If you're very worried buy a warranty (this is what I did).

p.s. keep the NSX

If you're on the NSX forum, I'd probably try to speak to Kaz. Certainly if I was rebuilding an NSX engine, I'd want his input. Definitely keep it though.

Cheers.
