RE: New Subaru WRX revealed
Discussion
I definately prefer the front end to the last generation, so thats a plus in my eyes. The "new" design isn't as compact as I was hoping for though (thought Subaru said the WRX/WRX STI would be smaller, not bigger?) and I'm not blown away by that rear either.
Still, this is just the WRX. Will wait to see what the STI looks like before I dismiss it...

...Now the WRX is barely on pace with a golf GTi and the STi beaten by the M135i/S3 which are similarly priced yet better in almost every way.
Pricing must vary a lot around the world... here in NZ the current STI will cost you $70k, compared with $88k for a manual 135i before you even think about the (quite extensive) options list. 26% extra certainly isn't similar to me - power/torque/weight figures are all pretty similar though.A WRX here is $50k, compared with $60k for a Golf GTI which also happens to be 45bhp down, lacking 4wd and only slightly lighter.
Of course 'better' is a pretty subjective thing too - whats more important, the driving experience or soft feeling plastic?

Best looking Subaru ever ... I bought a JDM Legacy Turbo new from David Hendry in Malmesbury in 1998 - traded in my trusty Impreza Turbo for it

Well thats just plain ugly!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I can't see how that looks ugly to you. It's a car. It's a Japanese car. It's a Japanese saloon car with sporty wheels and a bodykit. It looks like the new Impreza WRX! What EXACTLY were you expecting? Keira Knightley in car based form? A baby F-type? A Ferrari FF lookalike? The car based visual personification of perfection? The first concept car design put straight into production?
The first concept car design is just there to get us all excited before they inevitably dissapoint us with a slightly dissapointing final 'concept' car that IS the production car.
I sympathise with them. If I was in charge of a big car company the last thing I would say is 'Guys, make me the craziest, most awesome looking car ever that you think looks amazing and edgy!'
What if nobody in management or focus groups likes it?
What if it's put into production anyway?
What if profits plummet?
What if management fire me?
No I'd say 'guys make it look a bit like the other cars but like ours but a bit more modern, I've got a big mortgage to pay'. You just haven't though this comment through fully have you?!
It looks far better than the overinflated blob people seem to like on the thread about the next Civic Type-R.
And now someone is saying its a bad thing that it looks vaguely similar to the gen4 Legacy, which is one of the better looking cars Subaru has produced?
To be fair, all of its competition seems to get slated for ugliness as well.

Its the first one since the early classics that doesn't look like its been driven through halfords bling section so for that they deserve credit.its supposed to be a boggo saloon with a turbo bolted to it and thats what im seeing here
The wrx has never been fast - 240brake seems about right. Im sure the sti will output 350ish like the last one and be extremely quick.
