It never ceases to amaze me how little there is here for people with money to burn, bearing in mind how many of them visit the place!
I prefer it that way. It's one of the world's premier tracks, rich in history, and in a beautiful region; I prefer it that way vs. it being a shopping mall/playground for the rich and vulgar. Actually, it is quintessentially German in that way, and mirrors what I like so much about the culture here vs. my country of birth (USA). scherzkeks said:

I have a pretty good idea as far as the "digital version" goes, I've travelled over 100,000 miles round it since GT4 Evo said:
I know the circuit layout inside out .e.
No you don't.......What I also said is that I am very aware and clear that this does not prepare you for cambers, grip change, weather, surface change etc etc that you will get when you turn up.
Not looking to set any records I can assure you, I just want to safely go round, stay on the track and knock one off my automotive bucket list.

Another lesson in German business. They do not ever deal with or sell their own business to non German businesses
True, a case of local business for local people. Here's a local, earlier, on a hot lap...

Treat it as a mountain road you don't know with huge drops either side and you won't go far wrong don't go out there thinking you know the layout, you really don't want to end up being somewhere else on the circuit to where you thought you was. Never ever try to race or keep up with something. You don't know who's driving it or how well they know the place. What I also said is that I am very aware and clear that this does not prepare you for cambers, grip change, weather, surface change etc etc that you will get when you turn up.

The YouTube clip of Jan Magnussen driving the ZR1 around there springs to mind, the bit with the biker that tried to keep infront.

I would also chuck into that list: Dealerships. Want a sports car or track car? Head to the Ring where every specialist tuner and builder has a retail outlet.
One of the core problems with the Ring is that lots of wealthy people turn up and there is no real mechanism for opening their wallets and emptying them. Failure to monetise footfall is one of their core issues to date. From basic performance parts for a range of cars to entire cars the Ring could be a veritable shopping mecca for the car lover.
What happens to these businesses while the 'Ring is closed during winter though? DT
You are, of course, 100% correct. DT
But on a serious note I'm not talking about building a Yate's Wine Lodge, a branch of Halfords and a piequay fair, more a case of specialist vendors. I.e get over taken by a RuF etc, just trundle down the road and buy one for yourself etc.

What they end up doing will fundamentally depend on how much debt they are running and whether the lenders will push them to aggressively sweat the assets, in reality.

While punters were prepared to poke fun your new owners being our stereotypical interpretation of Americans taking over the Ring
You go and sell it to a locally owned automotive company who are in good financial health so we are left making jokes in a tenuous link to a state visit by Hitler of the circuit you still own and maintain.
Yeah take that Germany!!!
It takes a special arrogance to make fun of you when this is the view of Brooklands race circuit from a Tesco's Metro Carpark and all we are left of is making a TV show about building a scale model of it in Scaletrics.
You sum up all my disappointment with Britain with your precise observations. Depressing isn't it...You go and sell it to a locally owned automotive company who are in good financial health so we are left making jokes in a tenuous link to a state visit by Hitler of the circuit you still own and maintain.

And I thought we were talking about the Ring
back on topic any chance they will reduce the cost of what happens should you fall off, not that I'd plan to but accidents do happen
Should I make my first Ring trip this year or wait until next year.......
This is my main worry about the ring. If I have an off the car can be repaired/replaced but the costs for damaging the ring sound very high.back on topic any chance they will reduce the cost of what happens should you fall off, not that I'd plan to but accidents do happen

If you can decipher the language, it was a good insightful post...
I just hope that everyone is happy - the ring continues, the spirit continues, the businesses continue etc etc.
I'm not sure if there is any significant difference between "re-locating" a roller coaster and just knocking one down and building a new one? The actual cost of the rails and control machinery can't be that much of the total build, compared to all the footings, installation etc etc.
I'm also not sure what the benefit of putting it somewhere else is? Much better to have never built it, but once you have, you have to put it where it will make the most revenue?
Unless they are going to sell it to a theme park somewhere else in Deutschland? (Can't do Umlauts).

Two friends had car/Armaco interfaces, one slight the other writing off his old Jaguar and cost 300 and 750 euros in "track repairs" respectively. Not cheap but neither is running a proper racing circuit for Joe Public.
Pah, the bloke who's fluid I went off on which resulted in me heading into the armco at 100mph and my car ending up looking like this, two bikers going down, a three hour closure, and a lot of ambulances, got a bill for €30K all in. Adenauer said:

I'll be treating it like a 22km oil spill , but I won't forget which corner i'm on.
You say that, I did my 1st lap in July last year. Having completed many thousands of laps digitally I thought I'd be fine with knowing exactly where I was.For the 1st 5 or so miles I was extremely confident and knew which corner was next, after that however the concentration on driving and constantly checking mirrors put me out of sync. It all looks the bloody same and I slowed right down, there was also the road works going on and the speed limit section I knew not much about.
I managed a 10:32 and watching the in car video back I could have gone a lot quicker as you realise which corners are which but whilst driving it was a bit of a blur.
Having said all of that, I loved it. The adrenaline mixed with nerves is an unforgettable experience and my god is it good fun.
