Seriously? You don't just get it so it's "about full" you actually fill it until it's EXACTLY half full? You do know you probable waste more than you save with the extra trips to the fuel station and the time time sitting their idling away pointlessly?Also, if you left the ignition on position II but the engine off you might get the same effect?

Healthy rotaries should start fine from hot or cold. Get it compression tested, if that's good, change the starter motor. My understanding on the mobile phone issue was that it caused interference with some of the old flow measurement systems in the pumps - i.e. using your mobile could mean that you were charged for more/less petrol than was supplied. I didn't think it was anything to do with the phones themselves - presumably if it was, then you'd be asked to switch your phone off completely before entering the forecourt (rather than just not using it). Or for that matter, before driving anywhere!

That's the only time I can think of a new RX8/new engine failing to start, with the exception of fault somewhere else.

Yes I said early RX8's have the old starter the 1.3kw one. I have a January 2004 RX8 with this starter. I'm saying that all models with this particular starter do not start when the engine is hot. Your car may be 'excellent condition', however, the engine is tired. 60k, although not a hard and fast rule, is classic 'low compression' mileage. Get it on a proper rotary comp tester. I'd wager money on it being very low 6s or in the 5s.

I hired a Caterham last month from Caledionian Classic and the battery was knackered so every time we switched the car off it needed a bump.
I tried this at every station we stopped at on day 1 and all would not start the pump until the car was off. Was quite annoying as we wanted to save the embarrassment and fuss of having enough room to get the car going.
Maybe larger forecourts would be easier to manage this as they are inside shops with doors and double glazing. Was also annoying as some of the stations had actually sold out of petrol which meant we didn't ever want to let the tank drop much below a third remaining. Still managed the 800 miles in 2 days but had a lot of abuse of the owner since we were late back with the car.

Nonsense, I'm afraid. Mazda dealers started fitting the uprated starter when cars with failing compression started to show signs of poor warm starting. It was a temporary fix at best. V8RX7 said:

In Italy they smoke while filling up. I have been in a car where the attendant was filling up and had a fag hanging out his mouth. The one near Naples used to regularly do this although not seen it for two years now. The one in the village down the amalfi coast were still smoking last year.

Mine didn't on 80k...I think you have an engine rebuild looming, new starter and magnecore HT leads may see you through a bit more but if you have serious hot start problems already I think you know what's coming.
