RE: Shed Of The Week: Ford Scorpio 24v
Discussion
Had two of the previous (better looking in my opinion) Scorpio 2.9 Cosworths. For its time, very fast, very comfortable and reclining rear seats even! Proved to be extremely reliable and enjoyable to drive - although as previously commented, very tail happy - only accident in 50 years involved one of them - three spins on packed snow and gentle slide into only lamp post for miles...

I had a 2.3 Ultima Estate which answered to the name of Marty (after Marty Feldman, whose unfortunate looks it aped rather well).
Very good! From the list of things done and the appearance it seems like it's had Alfa obsessive like levels of attention. The seller even seems like a decent person from the advert.
The advert tells me where it is, unlike the lovely looking Alfa 164 SoTW last week that could have been in Scotland or Cornwall.

I put a BOB Cosworth out of one of these into a 1973 MK4 ford Cortina.
Does not compute.Does not commute either by the sound of it.

Between those two extremes, just as with Kim Kardashian's ears, there's not much in between.
It's nice to see the Daily Mail website influencing PH for a change than the usual other way around. This weeks Shed is a Cossie with a Bubble Butt.
Sadly this video featuring Sir Jackie Stewart is for an earlier Scorpio:

It also features someone that I suspect was an influence on Alan Partridge.
Wasn't that TV front man later caught out in some Coke and Hookers scandal?

The non bug-eye versions are much nicer to look at, although not available in an estate?

I've never seen one with a Cosworth engine is what I meant. Although coincidentally there is one on ebay at the moment so I was wrong anyway. Also, all the talk of 25mpg seems optimistic!
my dad had one of the cosworth saloons. Called the aubergine as it was dark purple and kinda round and oblong.
Remember the pretty nice and smooth engine, which pulled well from what i remember as a kid sat in the back. Always thought it might be interesting to put it into something... interesting

Blimey that's tempting. My j plate senator 3.0 24v is starting to get a bit temperamental in the gearbox department (autobox sometimes disbelieves that it is in P or N when it's warm so refuses to turn over) so this might be a good stop gap until I find the right E39 M5. I prefer the pre-facelift style as well.
That's an easy fix it's eitherA - Selector switch
The selector switch is on the side of the gearbox and can be removed without removing the box (3 screws from memory)
Once removed a few self tapers hold the two halves together and it can be opened up - my money is on a bit of moisture in there causing your faults - clean it and then re-grease and put it back together and it should fix your problem
or
B - Hot start issue
There is a well documented solution to the hot start issue which I'll share if need be but the easiest way to diagnose the issue as a "hot start" problem by putting a jump start pack on the battery - if it then starts when warm it's almost certainly a "hot start" issue
