Already on the first road trip of 2016 in the Italian Alps in the wifes company Golf GTD charging around the snowy alpen roads as part of a Ski Trip.

Next road trip will be over Easter to Lech in Austria for a ski trip in the 997 Turbo.

Final road trip will be in the 458 Speciale to Corsica in August.

New car itch? Looking at replacing the 997 turbo with a new Turbo S.

Otago Rally in New Zealand in April

Hoping to emigrate there this year so I might see more rallies over there. Really looking forward to seeing the Mad Creation 2!

What a coincidence, I have a Golf GTD company car and am after a 997.1 Turbo in the spring. Drop me a PM if you decide to sell.

Aside from buying a new toy, I'm going to treat the Exige to a suspension set-up by Rob Boston in the next few weeks. I don't really like shows or meets - I'd sooner watch motor racing or go out for a drive by myself. I'll see what transpires over the year from that perspective.

Otherwise, I'm going to take my new weekend car down to Mugello for the MotoGP and take a little road trip to Zandvoort for DTM - and hence to Denmark - with my dad in his V8V. The rest of the year will comprise the usual mix of race meetings and related events.

Provisional:
Possibly buy something open and sporting and preferably qualifying for classic insurance.
Scottish road trip (probably depending on above smile)
Attend a few more classic motor sport events this year (depends on mates)

Definite:
Tour of Morgan factory (already booked, present from wife)
Attend Showbus in September in 76 year old bus (not sure if this actually counts as motoring, though)

Plans for this year;
. Maybe venture south of the border at some point, only ever driven on Scottish roads so far
. Continue to enjoy said Scottish roads
. Attend at least 2 track days this year in my 106. Did my first one last year and I'm hooked, just need to borrow a trailer and we should be all good. Maybe a few upgrades for the 106 too, new tires definitely required as the last trackday finished the previous ones!
. Continue to learn RWD. Though I have a relatively low-powered E46 318, I'm enjoying learning how to control oversteer and play about with it, and I'm loving the BMW experience. Insurance dependant (I'll be 19) I may look at getting an E46 325/330.
. Hopefully get the chance to visit the BMW museum in Germany. If not this year, it's definitely something I'll do next year!
. Attend as many Motorsport events and shows as possible; first one is a rally at Knockhill on Sunday
. Contribute to PH more often! Been a lurker for too long and it needs fixed.
. Just to keep enjoying being with my mates in the cars, nothing compares.

  1. Spend at least one month researching 996 turbos, test driving, calling people, looking at adverts 10 times a day. eventually realise that the running costs will be even higher than my 996 targa and probably don't buy one.
  2. Attend Goodwood breakfast club
  3. Spend another month researching E30 325i sports, test driving, calling people, looking at adverts 10 times a day. eventually realise that no mater how amazing they look the rust will be as bad as on my old M635csi and give up on the idea.
  4. Attend Goodwood breakfast club
  5. Spend most of the year thinking about how to make my NA MX5 better, reading forums, calling specialists, getting quotes then not having time to do anything.
  6. Take the 996 to the Alps for the summer.
  7. Cash in all my chips and spend another month researching MP4 12C's, test driving, calling people, looking at adverts 10 times a day. Should i get one? will they increase in value, I bet they will if I don't take the plunge! What about Iris, what about the £3,500 PA warranty, £1,200 for a headlight.......
  8. Attend Goodwood FoS, still thinking about MP4 12C's...
  9. Spend at least a month trying to decide what daily car to buy to replace the current station hack. Probably decide to buy a Volvo C30 T5, its quite unique and has 5 cylinder ST engine and is tunable. Dilly dally trying to decide on auto or manual and go off the idea as cant make my mind up.
  10. Take my Ducati S4Rs testastretta out for its annual 25 mile run to box hill on the only sunny day of the year, as usual get several people offering large sums of money to buy it and turn them down then wonder why i pay £1,000 to have it serviced every 2 years in which time it gets ridden 50 miles....
  11. Attend Goodwood Revival
  12. Spend 3 hours on-line trying to work out if there is a British Motorshow on anywhere, then realize I missed one somewhere.
  13. Do a track day, it will be pouring with rain, I will spin several times, everyone will have a go at my for causing a mobile roadblock in my MX5, will be black flagged....
  14. Year will end, i will still have the 996 targa and NA MX5, thoughts will turn to 2017 and looking at 996 turbos......

Bought a house in the Algarve, Portugal so seriously considering a road trip there and back later in the year. The house is the reason for scaling back my car expenditure and shelving plans for more exotic metal but I'm enjoying the little Golf so much, I think it would be a brilliant trip.

I haven't been into modifying cars since my twenties (46 now) but the itch is back for this car and I'll be fitting new OZ Racing Ultraleggeras after winter. Also have a DTUK Tuning box on the shelf ready to go in.

No idea. I need to see how work goes this year before I can nail down a budget.

I also hanker after the RS4 as I suspect it will be good enough for comfort, yet handle well too. We'll see. I may have other plans next week hehe

Ditto

Just substitute the 911 turbo and E30 sport for an S2 Exige and Clio Cup race car (with proper Sadev sequential shift)

Glad it's not just me.

Starting to think about stuff for next year. How did you get on with your plans and how were the events?

Rick101 said:
Ginetta tour (again) -Yes, very interesting, nice to have a Yorkshire manufacturer
Geneva Motor Show - Work clashed
Santa Pod Festival of Power - Clashed with other stuff
Donington Historic - Good, maybe Silverstone next year though.
Scotland tour - Great, ended up doing NC500. Will try and take the Exige in 2017.
France trip & trackday - Very wet but good fun as always
PalmerSport day - Amazing 'experience' day, highly recommended.
Goodwood FOS - Very good. Quite fancy Revival next time.
Carfest North - Bit disappointing. Prob give it a miss next year
Lotus Hethel factory tour - Very interesting, esp Classic Team Lotus
Prob a couple of additional trackdays - Mallory, Donington, Blyton x2 and Croft x 2!
And of course the regular meets with local clubs - Not so many of these this year.
