They have had the new Ingenium engines for a while now, no more ford sourced units apart from the petrol (unless you mean that, not sure if/when it's due to be replaced).
the 6 pot petrol engine is from Vulvo, (ok owned by Ford.)

Also the Volvo S80 I believe (which is 70mm narrower than the Evoque apparently, although I know there's more to it than that).

Ours is a diesel (SD4) but it's not really worth changing for just a few more MPG until the new model comes out. I do appreciate that a better engine is available now though!

The car has been pretty great though. Can't fault it. We may well end up changing before the Evoque is replaced. That engine really is the only criticism I have of it, and even that really isn't all that bad. For me it just doesn't quite live up to the rest of the car.

I like to think of myself as a true petrol head. But a petrol head who due to a recent change in circumstances (new job with a big mileage commute.....nearly 25k a year), so had to trade in a Cayman for something more appropriate.

I now have a facelifted Evoque with the ingenium engine........ As mentioned the residual are epic! After two years and 50k miles you really can't argue with holding on to around 65% - 70% of the original list price.

For me one of the great beauties of being a car person is marrying up the vast array of new/used options to suit your circumstances. For me right now, for whiling away lots of miles in a comfy seat, with a great sound system, in the knowledge that I'm not haemorrhaging cash means the Evoque is alright by me.

LOL at all the usual hater comments, but it's nice to see a few springing to its defence! Shame on PH for falling into the usual lazy stereotypes, but I guess that's easily done when you don't have to spend your own money on a car!

Wife loves hers and I have to say I like it too - I've tried to persuade her into all sorts of supposedly more interesting machinery, but she's not having it. Still, means I get to spend more on mine!

Of course the Evoque has the GKN Twinster computer controlled clutch packs, as fitted to the Focus RS. So it has a very technologically advanced driveline.

I am surprised it can even move with only 180 bhp and 318 lb/ft of torque....

Er, it goes to sixty in 9.3 seconds. I remember when that was a passable fast hatch kind of time, sure its expensive and not ballistically fast but for the target market it is perfectly adequate and can be had with more powerful engines.

Not sure a lot pf PH actually has experienced "underpowered" and it seems to mean "doesnt crush your intrnal organs as much as I would like"
Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as saying it was underpowered or a bad car - I've driven an Ingenium-powered Evoque and, while it couldn't be described as brisk, it was more than adequate for the type of car it is. On the whole, I think the Evoque is great.

I was merely posing the genuine question of what's the slowest car available for the most money. Thinking about it, another Land Rover product, the Defender Autobiography, would likely be hard to beat, although it's now out of production, of course. biggrin

Plus there's no such thing as an official 6 cyclinder evoque, petrol or diesel.

The usual comments, even from the article, to be expected I guess.

Where is Willy Nilly? RobM77?

I love the stereotypes when it comes to SUVs.

I suppose it is no worse than saying Jap cars are either for OAPs or CHAVs.

MX5s are for poor people who can't afford a real sports car.

VWs are for people who have failed in life.

BMWs are for bullies.

Mercs are for cabbies.

Porsches are for people who want to show off.

Lambos and Ferraris are for people with small cocks.

Aston is for 007 wannabe.

Hyundai is.......blah blah blah.

In fact, I can't think of a car that doesn't have a stereotype, so all good I suppose.

What 6 pot petrol engine from Volvo...?

Volvo no longer make a 6 cyl engine for a start, and secondly, Ford sold Volvo to the Chinese over 6 six years ago.

Completely agree. My point at least is not that bits a POS, far from it. 180hp ish is adequate, not under powered. I just think for the premium price, more should be offered. VW mange 240 hp from a BiTDi. Outputs are now well over 100hp per litre. I see it as lazy, cynical and taking the piss that they fail to offer this. I also think the 5.0 is so long in the tooth. It may sound good but it's a dinosaur.

These things aren't my cup of tea at all and seem a bit small to me, but JLR must be pissing their pants with delight at the publics uptake of them - they are everywhere.

Fair play I say. Where are they manufactured?

People are paying a premium price for a fashion item, I agree it's taking the piss but the owners are willing victims.

With apologies to any on here who bought for different reasons, most of your fellow Evoque owners are sheep that don't actually give a crap about cars and their yardstick is how impressed their equally clueless neighbours will be by their blinged up purchase yuck .

People like the design, so they buy it?

What is wrong with that?

Surely it is no different to buying a house, or a new kitchen, or furniture?
Is someone who spends more than £2k on the cheapest Wickes kitchen also a fashion victim?

I find the styling of the Evoque too flash for me, but I thought it drove really well, and I think I am probably a bit sad for thinking too much into things when it comes to cars. I'm sure most people don't think past "I like the look, I thought it drove nicely enough, I think I'll buy it.".

You just sound bitter, judgemental and a bit of a snob.
